Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

It's happening

It's happening already, construction techs told that each shop in North Jersey has to send 2 techs from every depot every week to Closter to start the Fiber project.Does not matter how many are left in each depot or where you are from you have no choice. This is just the beginning. They will make you go wherever they want to.You are a contractor.

They claim it's a 100% new build over lash. I doubt if they are going to light up taps probably running optis and some low Fiber count spans For a cherry picked pocket. This is going to be all optics for the IPO for show and tell. and once that money is in their hands it will come to a halt. It's all about the money they are not spending

Dude the work is the work, no one has problems with the work. But when the work affects family time and peace of mind that is another thing. Just because I'm being paid to do a job does not mean you own me only for 8 hours if it takes you 16 hours of your time what kind of home life you will have. Its not worth it for a family man but you voluntarily left and made that decision so your right no one should pity you like I have said no voice no choice.

Here I am sitting wondering about my future because " I have no idea what is going to happen with our department" and you guys complain about working. 20 some odd years of service I'll come out there and pull more cable in one day than most of you whiny little girls can do in a month

Are Oakland construction techs included in this as well? The reason I'm asking is if my information is correct, they did not go union with the rest of the Oakland depot.

so is the plan to replace ALL the existing hardlines with straight fiber, or just all the taps and drops? Or just drops?

Right now you are hourly. If and when u go per job and have to eat all that drive time you would think a lot differently

I co-sign wholeheartedly.

just another example of why we always needed to be unionized.

A NJ construction tech being told he has to report to Closter is only the beginning. As an at-will employee, every tech is literally at the mercy of management. They have the right to change any condition of your employment at anytime with no accountability and there ain't shît you can do about it.

The drive will kill your body. 4-7hrs of driving. Not to mention getting home with no time to eat, little sleep, and repeat. 14-16hr days. Slave labor. Fact, not rumor. No one minds hard work, but slave labor is a whole different way to live.

gotta be honest, as long as I was commuting over in my company truck on their dime with the gas card, I wouldn't mind the new adventure and would find it fun at first. I'm sure the traffic on the way back up the Parkway (assuming you're allowed to drive commerical vehicles on it) going home would s---. But then again, OT....

Its not about overtime, its about sending you wherever they want and when they want.

No voice no choice, good luck keep following the herd, what's right for them is not right for you and money isn't everything.

The point is not if they will compensate you.The point is you have no choice where you go and when you go.

You guys are getting screwed. You are at their mercy. Without a say or voice to declare your dissatisfaction.

That's just the beginning. I have no idea of the distance or travel time you'll experience. But unless Altice is willing to help compensate, if I were those guys.... I'd start saving money and tell the misses you might be too tired to go out.

When is enough.... going to be enough?
