Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I clearly understand why getting laid off really hurts at DELL EMC storage

Long releases, may be once a year. During the release most teams dev/qa/support and others have no work for at least 6 months. It's such a relaxed/laid back work environment. Come late blame it on traffic, leave early to beat the traffic and claim work from home. This is going on for years/decades and I don't think it will change as long as Dell can sell legacy outdated hardware to customers and make money.

Most employees stick for life time even though their skills are diminishing and not learning/contributing towards products for very good pay (I mean huge salaries compared to skills) too many benefits, too much vacation and most importantly little to no work.

Few years ago we had a firmware/software only release with few features and it took one year. Got an email from VP with kudos. What is interesting is no one looked in to 30 page release notes which told customers not to use these new features. Just disgustingly sick.

Also be nice to managers as they can make you or break you. If you raise concerns, you are next in the list.

Getting a job after layoff is good for most, but not good enough to those who worked so hard and contributed at high level.

Lies, betrayal, favoritism by manager to under skilled engineers, being blindsided and back stabbed stay for a long time.

Mary hats off, I salute you madam.

I can feel what you are saying. I got laid off few months ago and found a great job in a company that is 3 times the market cap of Dell Emc. I was destroyed by my manager and corrupted under skilled team lead.

Now with all the passion I am doing so good at my new job. Also at current job I told my manager, directors and VP's of what happened to me at Dell. Also told multiple recruiters and friends about the culture in storage in Nashua and Hopkinton and told them how slackers they are and how hopeless skills they possess. Unless you play a game either by kissing managers a-- or bullying coworkers you have no real job at Dell Emc

To the last comment:

There is nothing insensitive. Everyone has family and children and it doesn't mean you can destroy other families for your survival and incompetency. Get a real life, if you can.

I wouldn't say Dell is the worst company, but I would say Nashua and Hopkinton are so dirty. Why don't someone from RR visit these sites and clean it up.

Wow, you nailed it! I left skidmarks out of that cesspool just before Dell took over. Some people see the iceberg coming and stay on board no matter what. I worked in a group littered with unimaginative, over-compensated "professionals" that had been generously rewarded over the years for loyalty, not skill. They were a group of bullies that selected the "other" in the group until they chased that person from the company. Then they picked a new other and started all over again. This happened with management knowledge and collusion.

Ironically, I was wildly successful there and they threw money at me as well. However, after several years, I wanted my soul back and I left of my own accord for something much better.

That's the key problem there. Those that have remained are their worst employees. They are the over-compensated who know they'll never get paid elsewhere to do so little work. Even worse, they know that people like me are littered across the job market where my entire company knows that any EMC/Dell person that submits a resume will get screened by me. And newsflash: I never want to work with one of those lazy dolts again. I have already shot down several attempts of EMCers to pollute my life raft with their presence.

There's another huge layoff coming and they all know it. I wish them luck clinging to the rails of the Titanic.
