Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

What do managers really do

Attend few meeting and keep track of engineers time off, as we got rid of Kronos

Company is not bad, its managers that protects certain employees from being laid off at the expense of others.

Managers don't care about storage technology, upcoming products and engineer skills. They want to feel secure. Think about this, they are not comfortable with over achievers

When everyone talks about layoffs, there are many employees that I know are not even worried as they know for sure they are safe.

People who hang on for years and year doing nothing as they are inner circle. This is the culture at DELL EMC

Art of SpreadSheet management is what Dell does best. Most managers run reports after reports and more reports to justify their existence and how to screw the folks who actually do the work.

Also don't forget the so called LTS ( Learning to Sell ) tests that they put you thru to justify their positions to weed out folks. Look around the faces in Round Rock and all of them are dreading and thinking when the axe might fall on them.

Most folks know they are trapped and more over have not improved their skills over the years. Also don't forget this is the only job they have had and will never go outside dell and survive.

It does sound like a b--ch fest but it really is a testament to the toxic and extremely top heavy organization that is Dell. There are people that have over 10 layers between them in Michael. I don't care if you're a janitor, there should never be that many layers. Even in the military (a notoriously management heavy organization) there are usually only 9 layers between the lowest boot camp slug and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. This many layers is caused by "kingdom building" and that leads to silos which will lead to failure. Dell continues to make money not because of their management but in spite of it. They're still making a living off their 1984 reputation and a charismatic leader but with the toxic culture and crushing debt, they are the next HP/Yahoo.

This is laughable b--ch fest.

Managers have their place in companies too and just like anyone else there are rubbish ones and there are good ones.

This vision you seem to have of a manageress environment is call anarchy, no direction or prioritization etc..

I'm not a manager myself but am realistic enough to recognise that not all management are selfish gits. I suggest those of you haven't a vent take a step back and look at reality.

Has anyone got a list of managers/directors/ORSD's to send to press ?

Not much at dell. This also includes ORSDs/ Directors. They work on spreadsheets to put folks on PIP pretty much sums it up. Women got promoted not because of their talent at dell., Dell can reduce headcount by 50 percent by firing managers /ORSD's and Directors and still be a bloated management

What do mangers at Dell do?

They make their engineers put together 4 up slides of their projects and then criticize them to death.

Then they take these 4 Up slides and present them to their senior managers as their own work and the senior managers criticize them to death.

Then the Senior managers take these 4 up slides and present themas their own to their directors who criticize then to death.

Then the directors take these 4 up slides and present them to the VP's who criticize them to death.

Then the VP's.......Senior VP's

Then the Senior VP's......

Get the picture, It's all a slide game and the result is that nothing the engineers have worked even resembles what is presented to top level management.....

But it makes Mikey smile as the boat slowly sink

I know managers that arrives when its convenient. Leaves without a trace. Day in day out. It actually surprises me that directors (as they are so called now) dont notice. If a sales rep did that - they'd be fired fast. There are so many managers walking around providing zero value to sales reps.

My previous manager was really good at repeating corporate crappola and pointing out numbers from erroneous spreadsheets. Every time that you prove that the numbers were incorrect, he would say that he would investigate and would never do so. He was also good at consuming expensive tequila and bill it on his expense account. He had no integrity what so ever and would likely sell his mother for a buck.

NO joke. Managers are a joke around here in Dell Sales. Most are ignorant to change. Most are powerhungry females. Most are generic script sharing email forwarding a--holes. It really is the minions that put int he work and get the worst end of the deal. Anyone can talk to spreadsheets when the answers are in front of you. 99.999% cant sell. All managers are worried about in Dell Sales is how good they look to their respective "boss". The boss, however many there are, have NO ideas that the managers are worthless. As long as the minions check the boxes - the managers look good - and zero credit (other than a paycheck) is given to the real workers in Dell Sales

most of the managers, are only able to Forward the incoming email without adding value.

They think only to save theirself , keep their good salary and save their friends.

Most ot them are useless, they have No technical know-how and No Leadership.

Being protected by others Upper Level of Managment they still survive at the axe.

Hope the Mr. Dell will sweep out them asap
