Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel now hiring URMs and then shopping them around

You should see the resumes of some of the diversity hires that Intel is hiring - - Talk about lowering the bar... HR just made offers with no clue where to place them.

When Intel says it is not lowering standard that is clearly not true. Big surprise right?

Look at many groups and you'll answer your own question. Some of these groups have managers who are non-URM without even a bachelors! These managers are lifers and incompetent. Do you see a manager without a bachelors who is a URM (Hispanic, African-American or Native American)? Do a little bit of research. Networking is mostly getting your kinsmen to positions and depriving better qualified folks because of their skin color.

Folks are going to be l;ike ostriches and will refuse to

There is a lot of research out there that shows the BIAS. In one instance, a group of resumes were sent out with the names of the minorities obscured; these minorities were from top schools and had impeccable grades. There was another pool in which the names of the minorities were identified. The case in which the names of the minorities were obscured, these minorities were selected.

However, the case in which the names of the minorities were NOT obscured less qualified non-minorities were picked.

In another instance, the high flying minorities performed very well in phone interviews and these were mixed with non-minorities who performed poorer. The non-minorities who performed poorer were picked over the minorities who performed better. Some of the minorities who performed better and went for the on-site interview received comments such as, "oh you sound like you're white".

So, my friend there's STILL a lot of BIAS out there; there's nothing like RACE BLINDNESS. RACISM still exists BIG LEAGUE (with apologies to the one who uses this phrase).

Anyone that is at a tier 1 private schools can attest that bias starts early.

Now whether tier1 or San Jose State candidate is better I just ask you to look at the Fortune 500 or tech 100 and see what the problem is 😉

There are most certainly very talented URM, just like there are talented Asian and Indian athletes, LOL.

@ -1bfl - in a true meritocracy you shouldn't have to prove that you looked at the URM pool before hiring. If they (URM) are really that good - they would automatically bubble up to the top and get hired. The fact that all this diversity BS has been instituted is proof beyond doubt that most URM's would not be getting the jobs without lowering the bar.

@1zsg-just because one graduated from a Tier 1 school doesn't make that person qualified for that position. Two wrongs does not not make a right and affirmative action is also discrimination.

Your English speaks volumes! There are many URMs--Hispanics, Native Americans and African Americans- with sterling credentials from Tier 1 schools who are turned down by managers like you who fill their groups with their kinsmen. If that is not discrimination, then how do you call that? Even focals are distributed to your kinsmen without regard to what is ACTUALLY contributed. These stories must be told. SAD.

@-1gky

Such a practice ensures that consideration is given to deserving minorities. Take a look at most groups and you would be surprised to see that the group is full of the kinsmen of the manager.

Hardly do you see a group whose manager is a Hispanic, Native American or African American with all members of that group being from the manager's race. But I bet you you can see other groups that do not have a single member of any of those URMs.

Intel claims that it is dedicating some money to hiring URMs, but it seems to just be a big league smokescreen and propaganda. If one has a racist manager, Intel can not protect one from that racist manager as the avenues for redress are not in the favor of the employee. Now, that's the real truth!

There are many URMs that are extremely qualified and are not hired or promoted because of the color of their skin; shocking but true! While there are many whites who are hired or promoted without even a BS degree. Just go around and you can find many of such types. SHOCKING that racism still exists.

"A lot of Indian females being hired as URM. What is surprising is they have connections at Intel which explains how they know about URM hiring."

Absolutely. Wives and friends of current Intel employees. One more dimension of cultural toxicity at Intel.

In DCG In order to hire some who's not a female and/or URM, one must first demonstrate that a woman or URM was a finalist who was brought in for an in-person interview and then prepare a memo making the case why female / URM candidate doesn't fit the requirements AND why the desired candidate can. The memo goes through your management chain, including GM and DB herself.

Managers must also demonstrate that they looked for candidates from the list of women and URM who applied to Intel but haven't been hired.

So in other words, Intel is a meritocracy and only hires the best candidates.

Just hire the best person for the job, doesn't matter the color or the plumbing btw the legs. This whole URM/reverse discrimination is what started Intel on a path away from its original values as envisioned by Noyce/Moore/Grove. Meritocracy has been completely lost.

The ancestors of today's URMs were discriminated against. They deserved justice but didn't get it. But that doesn't justify today's policy of favoring URMs at all costs, even unqualified ones.

Justice yes, retribution no.

You wonder is such favors just makes the problem bigger in our lazy society.

Many of below average talent yet will get average raises and never be fired, same thing when they went to school, got acccepted to college etc. doesn't build a cultural about working hard to get ahead like some other ethnic groups!0

This has been happening for many years, but the practice of hiring URMs before they have an actual job or position has really picked up in the past few years... Very bad for Intel.

When I was hiring would bring paper from great tier1 with impeccable credentials... boss " we got enough of them". They were Chinese mostly and some Indians, all males.

If you got a pu$$y you still have a chance.

Get sent resumes from same boss of Hispanic and African Americans from tier 3 and told too phone screen and see if we can find a place for them. Pressure was huge to bring on site to make the BK numbers

No wonder the company going down the $hitter
