Thread regarding Raymond James Financial Inc. layoffs

Don't get fooled by the Tampa Times Article on Tampa Bay's Top 100 Workplaces if you have an IT related skillset.

The business side of RJ is still a great place to work, but IT is suffering with huge moral issues that aren't being addressed. A number of long term associates have left recently and management is replacing them with contractors. Even the independent contractors are starting leave due to the workload and poor management. Most IT associates/contractors are just considered to be part of the herd, and once sent off to slaughter, attempts are made to replace the "body" that left, but the skillset and knowledge the exiting employee took with them is hard to replace.

This is no surprise, this has been the trend since the introduction of the bella/vince regime and long term employees have been leaving for years, either staying long enough to retire or just move on. Surprised if there are truly many long term employees left. You are a code monkey and can be sacrificed at any time.

Years ago they did the big "layoff" and had the excuse of double jobs from Morgan Keegan to prove the layoffs were necessary. Since that time they have slowly weeded out people that have longevity, my guess would be to avoid the bad press that would be associated with another layoff, since there is no longer really an excuse. I left a couple of years ago after a very long tenure. Don't know that there are many over 15 and 20 year people in IT anymore.

Yoda says: Spot-on, this thread is. If to correctional classes they demand you go, on the termination list, you are. Don't bother looking for a job internally, touch you, no one will. Older or have had to use the health insurance are you, hmm? Get out, because on the termination list, you are. Yes, hmmm.

Very creative indeed. They've been known to set people up for a delayed firing over a few months time, and even get the person for whom the clock is running out agree to say they gave notice on their own accord. Fall on the sword. Genius!

In general, RJ doesn't provide severance packages for any type of termination. They have very creative and calculated ways of sending people out the door.

In some cases, long term employees aren't just leaving , they are being forced out.
