Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Layoffs - AT WILL EMPLOYMENT

We are all employees and yes we are a number. I am ok with that. VZW is an amazing company to work for and they do care for their employees. If you were impacted you have opportunities to apply to open positions or you can take the great package that they didn't have to offer you. They could have said goodbye with nothing. If you don't like consequences of potential corporate changes leave or open your own business. You are not under contract or owed anything ever. If you are still an employee and here complaining you should resign tomorrow and not keep taking from a company you can't stand behind. Grow up.

I was riffed yesterday and totally agree with the original poster. Rifs happen all over the place and the fact that Verizon provides severance well above the norm and what they have to do is great (I realize it's to reduce lawsuit liability, but it's still a great deal more than most companies). I was in a job I don't care for and wanted to look for something else, but with 17 years of service I wanted that package. Got it yesterday and am now being paid over 100k to find a job a like.

Rifs happen at all companies and VZ is a business like all other companies. Don't take it personally. And the VZ bashing is unwarranted; they treat employees much better than the average company even if it's not the funniest place to work.

How can you be happy being considered just a number? How is that any way to go about your job? Don't you think you deserve to be treated as an individual and as a person with respect? You don't owe anything to the company. Your paycheck is because of all your hard work the work you put in day after day. Verizon isn't giving you a paycheck because it's a charity so why kiss their a--? Company continues to dump more and more workload and the frontline and continues laying off hard working people while top exec pay continues to climb and that's fair? Sweetie that's not normal and that's not how the world works. Once you remove your head from Verizon's a-- and look at how the world works outside of Verizon you will see that their are jobs that treat you as family and with respect and do what they can to take care of its workers. Verizon only cares about keeping its board of directors happy and their ceos pockets full

The Original Poster has their head shoved so far up the company's a-- they could pop out Lowells mouth. Clearly this is one of the people that work in the land of far far away with their unicorns and rainbows coming in to work everything thinking that they work for this amazing company until their number turns up. I wish I had gotten laid off today, NOT because they gave such a "generous" package... because in reality that ain't sh-- in the economy today... BECAUSE I HATE THIS PLACE. Not one person that has gotten laid off in the last year that I PERSONALLY know was upset AT ALL.

The reason I haven't left? When you have a job and you're looking for something else you nitpick every little thing and unless it supercedes what you have in all aspects, you won't bite the bullet and leave. I get 3 weeks of vacation a year, and I have to say the benefits are the best.... so I compare that to what's out there and I'm like sh-- I can't lose this. But you forget about how miserable you are because this company has s---ed the life out of you for how many years. At least if they gave me a slip it would give me that PUSH that I needed to stop comparing apples and oranges.

Regardless of anything, I'm putting those things aside and the next GOOD thing that crosses my path I'm out.

This company is a joke. They spend money on the dumbest sh-- and then when it fails they have to falsify YOY profit so they cut the people that clean up their messes.

I started this company with 1 job, sales... several years later I now graduated to being a greeter, a ccr, a sales rep, a technician and now an inventory specialist.. all while making 2/3 of the pay that I made when I started. If you don't see a problem with that, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM TOO.

You can't keep delegating more job responsibilities every few months and not cough up more pay. Everything is going to tank and I'm going to sit and laugh.

Good Luck everyone!

All the ones who say anything good about vzw are kiss up zombies who are sup or ads who were told to write something here. All employees of vzw should unionize asap.

I agree with this post. Verizon corrected it's mistake and missteps in the retail strategy fairly with these packages. I think they set everyone up with fair compensation.

"Verizon will look for us to help and we will laugh as their pleas are ignored."

While it is nice to think that, that almost never happens. In a big system like VZ, it turns out that really no-one is indispensable and that system grinds on, finding a way. S---s, but is then self-justifying, "You see, he/she/they weren't REALLY needed"

Remember this moment when they punch YOUR number. We sacrificed our families and personal lives to earn a meager check. We were owed that loyalty in return. Don't get me wrong, it'll be hilarious seeing the disaster that's going to happen because they cut out the OPERATIONS TEAM.

The mistakes from people who won't know what to do coupled with the mistakes made by people being assigned triple the workload will be catastrophic. Especially considering the fact that the people in management positions weren't promoted because they know how to manage, but rather because they could sell really well on their own.

I mopped up so many mistakes for my district that they stopped learning the systems entirely and just made me do all of it. Overnight they'll realize how bad a mistake this was. They'll call me begging for help and I'll smile and tell them, "I'm sorry, I have no value to this company so I'm sure it'll survive without me, right?" Verizon will look for us to help and we will laugh as their pleas are ignored.

Hey OP, don't forget to wipe your chin after you leave Lowell's office. And just so you know, the breath mints you're using aren't working.

You are so far up Vzw's butt you can't distinguish where they end and you start. Vzw did not give these employees an opportunity to apply for a different position. They were told to not come back. Have you lost not only your integrity but morals and heart by working there. Best thing I ever did was leave there.

OP

You are delusional. VZ has zero leadership and promotes sales reps into management because they have good number in a gravy territory. The sales reps who are promoted have zero leadership skills and push quality reps out of the company.

Actually, the company owes its employees more than they are paid and offered. They show up to work everyday and cleanup the pet projects of those looking to their next promotion. Once they leave the employees are stuck cleaning up the mess.

Ppl who worked 10, 15 years for this company and missed hiliday parties, family reunions, birthday parties or worked 15 hours shifts without even taking a lunch brake because managers are As... and now lets let them go. That is why VZW Corporatuon s---s. Ppl plan your leaving Verizon on the the they need you the most and as advice use all your benefits, time off... Dont worry about what the managrr will think or say. At the end only you care for yourself. Remember we dont live to work, we work to live.

I hope OP still feels that way when it's their turn to go. Because this is just the beginning. I was impacted last round and I have nothing bad to say about the company, but things are changing RAPIDLY and no one is safe, regardless of performance or reputation. To come here and make such an insensitive comment to people who have just lost their livelihood or watched their friends list their jobs is very telling of this person's character and maturity level.

How are they caring about their employees when the emoyees had dedicated their TIME which is one of the most valuable things humans have, and the company does not even offer advance notice to gice employees enough time to plan and recover. It could take someone more than a month to get a new job. Plus the stress that emoyees live with when working for VZW. That without mentioning how mess up GM SM and DM are when it comes to employees Wellness.

"If you are still an employee and here complaining you should resign tomorrow and not keep taking from a company you can't stand behind"

Its a job, not a way of life (even with a stupid credo). So, providing a) you aren't causing yourself harm mentally or otherwise, and b) depriving yourself from a better job elsewhere,

taking a lot of salary from a company you don't much like might not be a bad choice.
