Thread regarding DeVry Inc. layoffs

Layoff of Center Deans?

I heard a rumor today that the Center Deans are being eliminated at the end of this fiscal year. Does anyone know if there is any truth to it? Has anyone heard anything?

They do all these small layoffs to avoid media attention. In the end I hope it comes back to bite them.

When Bell and Howell owned DeVry it was called the Bell and Howell Education Group. What goes around comes around.

What's the last day for classes at your campus?

Center Deans, aren't they just part of the sales force?

Simply call a faculty meeting and make the issues known to the administration, that if swift improvements are not forthcoming there will be no classes taught until the proper resources are allocated.

New name probably won't help them if they are offering the same poor service and class options at exorbitant prices.

The rebranded name of DeVry Education Group is supposed to be announced in May and then made official starting with the next fiscal year. That was the plan anyway. We will see.

What should we change the name to? Fraud College? Scam Group? Don't Go Here U? The list is pretty lengthy.

Did they ever change the name? Who won the money? Will we ever know?

Let's change the name and this will wipe away the sins of the last 10 years. Seriously DeVry? I can take a skunk and dress it up like a cat, but you know what, it's still a skunk.

You stink right now DeVry.

Back in the day, this school had a purpose. It was different, it's education respectable. You ask alumni and you can see a stark difference - older students say their degrees helped them. Younger students say sometimes it helped but it was way too expensive (if they graduate at all). It's because this place lost its uniqueness to warrant such an expense. First it offered programs you can find elsewhere but had the novelty of being online. Now that isn't special anymore because many cc and universities offer online courses for a fraction of the cost. Some state universities have full distance learning programs online. And while they have been working to improve their education, we have been doing the opposite by letting good people go and using systems that barely function. Until that is fixed, I don't hold much hope out for this place.

But changing the name will fix everything, haven't you heard? Who thought of that hairbrained idea?

Many of the students attending DeVry are academic bottom feeders who have no other choice for college other then community college. AND, honestly, community college is a far better choice for these students. It is 1/5 the cost and often have enrollment agreements with successful reputable four year schools which makes transferring credits seemless.

DVG knows that they can abuse these students because they are limited in where they can go.

Another reason to say, 'shame on you DeVry, shame on you.'

The students aren't happy about any of this. They're constantly raising hell about the elimination of favorite professors and replacing them with worse ones. They get mad about class cancelations and being forced to travel to other campuses to get the classes they need. They've even tried petitioning to get what they want, like certain professors or to get a class added to the schedule, but DVU just doesn't care. That's why we're losing students so much faster than we can bring them in. We celebrate the number of new students each session, but nobody mentions that the numbers we lose are so much higher.

So yes, the students try to advocate for themselves, and most of us faculty and staff do too, but it falls on the deaf ears of an administration that refuses to acknowledge the crisis or perhaps they just don't have the resources to support the students anymore. Both cases are unacceptable.

Ultra-Progressive George Soros bought a stake in Devry about 2 weeks ago. The lemmings are following him. Maybe he's planning on the Dem's free education promise :>))

What do the students have to say about this situation? They are the ones that have to ultimately deal with lack of classes & fewer professors. Shouldn't they be demanding the proper resources be put in place for their programs? Do they even bring these matters up with the administration?

Don't worry about it - DeVry will be closing once the company cannot make the transition to the Canvas LMS later this year. The transition is being mismanaged and this is exactly the type of situation that has caused hundreds of other companies to collapse. The managers simply have no clue how to roll out the new LMS and are not able to setup an effective path forward for part-time or full-time employees. Once the classes fail then there will be nothing left to sell to the ignorant masses. Canvas will be the final blow that collapses the company, so cash in your stock options now.

It's been mentioned on here before that the rumor is some of the campuses will be closed. Has anyone else heard anything more about that?

Colleagues continue to be eliminated, enrollment continues to plummet, engagement scores are terrible, and student satisfaction is abysmal. BUT, stock is going up? It's all a big game.
