Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

It isn't about good people or not.

It isn't about good people or not. They are going to outsource a lot! Entire departments and functions will be contracted out.

Cuts are also projected to happen again in September after the summer projects are done. They just didn't do it now as they didn't want to jeopardize safety and they want them completed.

Honestly, as someone who is out and has found another GREAT job and GREAT company to work for.... please be proactive and get your resume out there. Start searching. Take control of your situation. Looking doesn't hurt and you don't have to jump ship if you don't want to but at least you can be sleuthing out other options and opportunities. The end-all-be-all isn't Enbridge or Spectra.

Do what is right for you. Big companies care little about people. They come-and-go. Think of it this way. Should something happen to you today. (say you fell ill or what-not). They would send flowers (because HR does that) and should you not be able to return, they would post your job next week. It doesn't matter how hard you've worked or sacrificed for them. They don't care about that. Please understand this principle of large companies. They must satisfy stockholders, shareholders and the board. That's all.

(btw...make sure your resume is in the new style and catchy. I spoke with an HR rep outside of the company when I was looking and they told me that a tired ole resume with a boring format goes to the bottom of the pile. If you don't know what the new style is, go to a job bank location, they can help you or check this out.... it is more about highlighting your skills and what you'd bring to a company...

I hope this helps. Hang in there. I spent several years until Christmas with the company and bailed. (I knew layoffs were coming and wanted to get ahead of them and stop living with the uncertainty. I was getting an ulcer over it all.)

Sadly the only ones safe now are the biggest hiney-kissers. Everyone else is fair game. They have setup a system where everyone throws each other under the bus just to try and save their own job. Truly a poor way to run any organization. Yes, layoffs happen in mergers all the time. That isn't the issue. The issue is that they are creating the most hostile work environment.

I would dare any of the Directors / Leaders / VP's to do the jobs that the rest are. This is a very top-heavy organization where those in the ivory towers haven't got a clue what happens on the front lines. They make up their artsy-fartsy plans that make no sense in operations then waste the money trying to implement them. With little to no success.

My advice.... get out. Get your resume out there and jump ship when you can. Even better if somehow you can leave them holding the 'bag' instead of them packing your bags! Remember respect is earned. They don't deserve your loyalty or respect.

the problem with Enbridge is that it continues to layoff people every year. Every year they keep changing and continuously looking at cost cutting initiatives.......and it comes to people. Demoting people, keeping their salary for one or 2 years and then giving them a pay cut? In the meantime Al Monaco is one of top twenty most earned CEOs in Canada. Keeps on increasing his pay. VPs are overrated. You never see them as "public servants". With the merger this will be even worse.
