Thread regarding Williams Cos. layoffs

Congrulations

To those that got terminated and are currently doing better than where last year, way to go. Also to those that are still struggling never quit and take advantage of any better opportunities that come your call. Williams terminated some of their most talented and hard working personnel last year and have a talent shortage currently, too bad.

Did anyone really believe they would back employees that they terminated last year. Not doing this, shows the true colors of the top management.

I've been told they are not going to recall anyone back. You must take the initiative and reapply on your own. I would never consider reapplying to a company that let me go when I was an overachiever. I consider it their loss/mistake. I have moved on to a better outcome because of their stupidity. I will have the last laugh! :)

Nothing new, it has been about buddies or

another way putting it "cliques". That's why so many silver spooned kids Join franterities or sororities in college to become part of an exclusive "clique". Some of the laziest and dumbest students but they get the top corporate jobs later in life. Ignore it and do your best there are also opportunities for people that earn it as well, maybe better off working in small company where you might get rewarded.

Great, glad to see opportunities increasing. Life is short, if you can advance yourself.especially in your first part Of career. It is harder when you have a family to support and are tied down. Even so, networking is critical you never know when the rug is going to be pulled underneath you, Williams did it and they will again. Never believe the company line of BS, how many times did with hear it during the reorganizations that you do not need to worry about cut backs, total line of BS, very typical.

Houston office not going anywhere, but I've seen a bunch of engineers walk out the door. All the reorgs have left talent behind so buddies can get jobs. New gas and oil jobs in Houston means more opportunity away from here...

Are they going to close down Houston. What would be left a gigantic overhead center in Tulsa?

Nothing wrong with a retirement or resignation, what isnt right was all these forced terminations that occurred, and no desire to call anyone back. don't see an ounce of integerity involved in this behavior, even though it's Williams top core value.

Retirements and resignations still coming. Many inside have taken their cues and are making their own career decisions. More changes on the way, especially in Houston.

Sobering fact, behavioral interviews are thought to be a better predictor of performance in large corporations than informal interviews. BS artists and braggers do the best on behavioral interviews, those must be the skills required to do well in a corporate setting.

Another lousy jobs report today. Added a measly 90K jobs this month, I am certain millions have given up looking as well with no hope as well. Thanks a lot Williams, for firing 700 employees and refilling some of these positions, without one ounce of an attempt to call the terminated employees back.

It seems to be an employers market right now, except for maybe some high tech industries that need people with computer skills. It seems a lot of the barriers are in place to screen out older candidates and discourage them from even applying for work. It is very disappointing and doesn't reflect well on the way society and this country is heading.

Agreed with half the pay if you are 55 plus.

Yes they would, if you had enough people going to bat for you. If you don't have that forget it, almost wasting your time reapplying.

If the organization sees that you are putting in the extra effort, and doesn't takes the time to place you in a position where you are productive then it is probably time for you to get out.

Agreed, based on my experience somebody that is committed and puts in long hours with "poor" talent" will eventually become a star performer. Those with "high talent" can easily turn out to be a flash in the pan. Don't know what they are thinking at Williams, doesn't make sense at least too me.
