You've heard it here, on this website before. You've been told that the pursuit of Altice running fiber to the home is NOT financially plausible. Waiting for the proper permits, digging and repairing the trenches to run the line, lawsuits from AT&T and Verizon, waiting for landlord permission to gain entry into MDU's... is a nightmare and time-consuming. Materials needed are rising in cost. Altice would have to BORROW huge amounts of cash to finance such an operation. And Altice also PROMISED the PSC that it is their intent. But, so did Verizon. And Google had the same thought.
And as you were informed on this very website.... that work has stopped. These two monster companies, Google and Verizon are cash cows. And they, like Facebook, are putting their money on a different direction. Increase the speed of Wifi, make it more easily available as far as reception.... and you're good to go. Treat Wifi in the same manner as your wireless phone service, which relies on "repeaters" strategically planted. And as the old song goes, "Pump Up The Volume. Pump Up The Volume."
Imagine.... no more running cable to apartments and homes. Ugly wires "gone" from urban and suburban areas. Just run fiber to the roof of a building, pole, tower and make sure the customer has line of sight. Altice will "play the game" for awhile and run fiber, if they have to, only to the areas that will pay for the increase in speeds. Hospitals, schools, police precincts, the court system and well-to-do residential areas will have fiber. And of course, the offices of the politicians.Tthey’d better get hooked up. Sorry, poor neighborhoods.... it ain't happening.
As soon as this technology is proven to be the wave of the future, then FTTH will become meaningless.
