To the all caps post. Yes Cabela's won't discuss the merger/buyout. That would be considered insider trading. Yes, Cabela's is a shell of what they once were. They are bleeding money due to poor management/business decisions! Because Sidney and Cabela's are in bed together/all eggs in one basket/Sidney up a creek with no paddle, etc, Sidney and Cabela's are in trouble with or without the deal going through! Any other way of thinking and you have your head in the sand! I don't have to be an expert at any of things you mentioned. I just have to be informed and make sound decisions from the information that is out there. I hope you do the same! Good day.

Or maybe are you are none of them . Are you just getting a brief case full of money from bass pro?

I know you must be a high price lawyer, financial consultant , economic developer and city manager with your posts. I am just a lifetime resident of Sidney, a large Cabela's stockholder, a longtime Cabela's employee and a loyal customer of Cabela's. I know several members of the Cabela family. What is your background anyway which we as citizens of Sidney should in trust you with everything we have worked our entire life on to make a decision?

I know Cabela's cannot comment on the status of the merger. I suggested a meeting as a way to get everyone's fears out in the open. Maybe it was a stupid idea especially if people are afraid of retaliation and maybe the city doesn't want to hear everyone's opinion .

What would you like from this meeting? Cabela's is currently a publicly traded company so they can't go into any details about the BP offer. Other than the offer is still on the table. If the deal goes through BP will relocate or eliminate jobs from Sidney. If the deal falls apart, Cabela's is left standing, but as a shell of a company it once was. While the second option is probably better for Sidney and surrounding communities, it's long term success will depend on how upper management makes decisions going forward. Guessing Cabela's will continue to run short staffed to save on payroll/expenses.

So for the city council, focus on the business that are in Sidney and business that want to come to Sidney or be in Sidney. The Cabela's deal is out of the city councils hands and the communities hands. Let's redirect the negative thoughts and find the positive. When or if Cabela's leaves, what plans are in place? Could the college consider expanding into corporate buildings? Long term talks with Sandhills? What is there vision? Let's not turn Sidney into just another exit along I80.

So if a community meeting happens, it should be focused on the future of what the city and community can do. Not what Cabela's is doing or will be doing.

I am a longtime employee , a long time Sidney resident, a large stockholder. I would welcome this suggestion tremendously or any meeting with the pubic who could put some light on what is going on or allow for pubic input concerning the Cabela situation.

The city and Cabela's need to hold a question and answer session open to the public at the fairgrounds . Hold the meeting during the week after 5 pm so more citizens can attend. Have strict rules no cussing or arguing amongst attendees.

I agree entirely with the chatter who stated we as a community need to work together and tomorrow I have a plan to save this community and wish me luck. I am going to ask permission from Cabela's to begin a policy to be a part of a solution to begin to get this company and this community to once again achieve greatness. When we get this situation fixed next time lets not get to greedy to think we need to expand way beyond what is reasonably feasible.

I am in agreement although each councilmen potential can offer some assistance in perhaps a solution to this situation. However they do not shoulder the blame for the situation in the crisis's at Cabela's. I am in agreement each of us in this community need to become involved and we may have a chance to overcome this crisis situation.

I disagree entirely I think the council not only have the opportunity but the duty to bring up this issue and to listen to analyze and to propose a policy in the best interest of the taxpayer of this city in regard to situation at Cabela's which it outcome is probably the most important issue in the history of Sidney Nebraska and, I believe , is the most important issue this town will ever face.

The problem has been identified and everyone knows the potential negative effect. Why keep stating the obvious. The council doesn't have the power to change what has happened. They are promoting our great town and what it has to offer. With that, we have to keep it in tip top shape for potential new businesses. You should jump in with your positive ideas if you think you have solutions. Stop whining! You aren't helping at all. Five folks on the council are not our saviors, it takes a community!

Totally disagree 100 percent how can a person address a problem if they do not recognize the negative factors involved.

FDR Reagan Lincoln spoke of negatively and then proposed solutions to what needed to be done. In all honesty even you Mr. mayor speak of negatively with the stray cat problem , the dogs going on the soccer field , the truck parking problem , the sign problem. the messy lawn problem you see a negative problem and propose solutions. I see a housing development scheduled to build 800 houses in Sidney several years ago and at this time we have zero houses sold in this development and have 4 built sell 796 left to be built. I see homes that a few years ago were purchase for 90 thousand more then the buyer is asking and the buyer can not sell his house even at a 90 thousand dollar lost . You Mr. mayor I gather does not see a negative just tap your heels together and say no place like Sidney or perhaps no place like bass pro and everything will be fine. I see a need for discussions at council meetings perhaps even have Cabela's or state official attends if nothing else to perhaps just ease the fear of the community.
