I'm getting more serious and focused on my next career move. Is there any big IT Company still worth pursuing?

I'm getting more serious and focused on my next career move. Is there any big IT Company still worth pursuing? If so, could you please provide names and explain why they might still be good places to work at?

Also, what about hot IT startups? I'm 45 years old and I'm not sure I have the energy at this stage in my career to work 24/7/365 and all the uncertainties that would probably leave me without a job again in less than 2-3 years.

What about changing Industries? I know several people that say great things about working in Pharma, Food & Beverage, etc., etc. Those Companies always need in-house IT resources... I'm inclining to focus my search on old well-established companies in the US, even if their reviews describe them as bureaucratic and obsolete in terms of technology. They might be big elephants, but the ones I've been searching haven't laid off anyone in more than 30 years...

I got out of Big IT and I doubt I want to return again. Position yourself in some small IT shop for a decent-sized employer. I'm got in the IT department @ a private University and it is GREAT!!! Much more money, much less work and stress, much less political BS and much more satisfaction.

OP, I am in your situation. The advice I've been given is to seek employment outside IT and preferably a company that's not on "thelayoff.com"

If you look at other big IT company threads on thelayoff, you'll see similar complaints to the complaints people have at HPE.

Also, use glassdoor.com or reviews on indeed.com to see what people say about companies and salary.

Last but not least, clean up and update your profile on LinkedIn. Do the same on monster.com, career builder, indeed, dice and all those other job boards. Work on networking with people in your area and reach out to them.

I have two interviews - one last Mon and one coming up today.
