Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

It finally happened today

After 15 years putting my life into this company, today is the day I finally found out it's my turn to leave. Our team in re-entry was "unofficially" informed by our manager that the company will announce this week that tenured ERs will be asked to take a pay cut and apply for a new "position" with th company (doing the same job), or to leave altogether with some kind of modest severance. I can't believe this. We will all be hearing this officially this week. Good luck to all of you. I hear Grand Canyon is still hiring.

Take the lower paying job...while looking for another. Better than unemployment and COBRA insurance.

Grand Canyon is run by Brian Mueller who used to be President or Executive at University of Phoenix. Mueller went to GCU in 2008 from UOPhx.

'Prior to taking the reins of Grand Canyon University, Mueller was the president and a director of Apollo Education Group, the parent company of the University of Phoenix. Mueller also held executive positions with the University of Phoenix Online including CEO, chief operating officer, and senior vice president. While in a leadership position, enrollment at the for-profit institution grew from 3,500 to 340,000."

Same ole' stuff, different diaper.

GCU has a couple of advantages. In general, their educational product is respected. They get splashed with some of the "for profit" mud, but they tend to have standards and hold students accountable. They also have the backdrop of a "real" college - North Central Accredited, a campus with dorms and lots of new buildings, NCAA athletic teams. Make no mistake - ERs are driven hard to produce, but at least they have a product that has some desirability.

Check the site rules. Naming names, threats, personal insults and using derogatory language in general not allowed. Site admins remove that kind of posts, and can ban one's IP for violating rules as well.

You failed to mention one thing "sweatshop"...those folks working at GCU have the ability to get a raise or a market wage increase. Not us here at UoP. I wouldn't want to work under Brian Meuler anyway. Did it once. Not a fan.

Do you know who runs the Grand Canyon ER organization? Right - former UoP execs. Same sweatshop mentality.

Retitling and lower pay seems logical but no word of it in QC. I think it will happen but no news of it.

I work in ADG and have heard none of this. I would have if this were true.

Why do people on here act like getting severance is like hitting the lottery? You get 6 weeks at best and it's taxed like a bonus. Sounds like a great plan.

Not sure which school you work for but I found out the same great news. I have been waiting for this moment. Give me my severance so I can bounce already.
