Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

all you need to know from this site

  1. The lack of activity on this site strongly suggests there are no actual layoffs going on at Intel right now... But who knows, performance management and project cancellations can occur at any time, and in recent years, they seem to like to do get rid of people between April and June.

  2. Headcount targets vary with financials, so you can never be too sure what will be the next layoff criteria. From most endangered to least, it seems to be IR, SSL5, SSL4, long time in grade with no recent EE or SSL2/SSL1. Sometimes they do weird reachbacks and combinations ("grade 7 and higher, and two or more SSL4s in last three years"). Whatever. The targets drive the criteria but the basics are pretty simple.

  3. A bad review or stagnation doesn't necessarily mean you will get laid off this year or next, but it does suggest you and your current team/manager are not "clicking" so you should look around for other positions, internal and/or external. Be proactive and don't wait for sh-- to land on you. Internally, this means finding a manager who appreciates your contributions and likes you. Some call this game playing and politics, but that's the system and if you can't work with it, you might as well leave.

  4. Even if you are a top performer, looking around is a good idea - I know several people who got big raises by going outside. No reason to give Intel more loyalty than they give you.

  5. Nobody, especially nobody posting on this board, knows what is going on in terms of when or how big the next layoff will be or if there will "just" be performance management this year. It all depends on budgets. Besides... what would you do with this information? Get started on cleaning out your desk? You're better off doing that low-boil job search in the background and it might pay off (with a higher wage) if you get laid off or not.

  6. Most important: Do not get locked into dead languages and technologies that only Intel uses. Case in point: There is very little market for 15+ years experience Perl and Tcl programmers these days in the outside world. Keep current. Intel is not looking out for you.

God, I hope my project gets cancelled so I'll be forced to get off of my butt and find a real job outside of the Intel hell hole.

Micro managing is the PTD/LTD way and now the TMG and Intel way.

It will be a HBR case study about how it drives trust, creative, innovation out of any organization. Rule by fears isn't the way to inspire but that is the intel way now.

All you need to know from reading this thread is that when someone mentions Perl and Tcl in the same line with "modern software engineering", you know why most software engineers are stuck at Intel and can't find anything better.

Tcl and Perl? Really?HA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... Ok script kiddies...Keep convincing yourself you are a seasoned software engineer.... HAhAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....

@M16kYOd-gaq

I once heard a famous leader and Time man of the year say

"Only the Paranoid Survive"

If I was anyone who needed to work more than 10 years I'd start looking at alternatives. Intel management has shown a track record now of totally irrational personnel decisions. Let's not even talk about their larger business strategy. Given the leadership is the same at the moment no reason to not expect that same irrational response to the continued growing crisis will not likely repeat.

Last thing I'd want to be is look around and find all my many fellow intelers on my block all laid off . This time around employees likely have 3-6 months or less of benefits and little time to find a job. Many will be similar and likel will be putting house on market and all chasing the same job.

Those that went last time especially including VSP had huge time horizons to find their next gig. This time around it will be ugly as things are ugly at intel

Lucky for me in, I had valuable and unique skills and I batted 100% offer to interview. For younger folks with dime a dozen skills and little unique experience going into a flooded job market got to ask you want to wait if you already know you ain't going to try and retire on the Tatanic ?

Plausible story, bro. But see my point 5. It's a diverting parlour game, but what's anybody gonna do with this information if they guess right?

This is for sure:

1) Intel has committed a level of GM.

2) Wallstreet has come to expect that minimun level of GM and growth as well as some level of increased dividend or will dump the stock

3) BK and BoD must meet 1 and 2 or they will be shown the door.

4) Certaib business assumptions made about ACT and silent ACT to meet 1-3. And all were flawed ...

5). Those assumptions made two and a year ago.

6). Client x86 still softer than expected with continue drop in volume and appearance of competitive AMD that will drop price and margin leverage.

7) Sever demand softer than forcast and thus will be sort to profits which hit most to the larger company GM. AMD will force additional huge price pressure especially in 2018 when 10nm pain really is at maximum!

8). New initiatives not delivering any revenue nor profits and cost on all are trending above forecast as they all need more heads after the ACT / VSP impact.

8). Soahails made up numbers for 14 weren't met. 10nm numbers even more unlikely to be met which means 2018 is going to be a bust requiring huge adjustment of people / structure or stock price.

You add 1-8 and tell me if you don't think another ACT is required

🤔😉😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
