Seriously? I awoke at 8 A.M. CT for my 9 A.M. shift. Not caring, I hit snooze. Later, I checked SHLD news and there wasn't anything about earnings which is what I figured. I checked here to see if anything was going on. Not much. I wandered into Auto and logged in. I always pull up The Layoff so I can keep an eye on things.
I had needy CUSTOMERS this morning and didn't have my CSA on today so I lost track of you all for a while today. At noon, 12:03 P.M. exactly, I noticed that I had "a note from eddie" in my inbox. I thought it was spoof at first but alas no. The note was pointless. What was that note meant to convey to the rest of us? What kind of cost savings are we talking about here? Hardly a dent in one Billion.
I have seen this before, unfortunately, with another large corporation that I used to work for that no longer exists. Corporate goes first but never all at once but we all need to get out. I just did an interview recently for another management position where the guy asked why I would be looking at leaving Sears. The way I adjusted my eyeglasses and looked at him was the only answer I had to give. He knew about Sears but he was doing his job.
I see a lot of people throwing advice around and some of it is very good. The next cuts are going to be corporate as well. The stores are barren of employees to cut and we don't make much anyway not that wages are the only expense in having employees. From corporate it will go to divisional upper management and then to mid management and finally to store management and then it will be over. Dedicated sales personnel will be cut out along the way.
We should ALL be actively looking and interviewing RIGHT NOW. Don't wait around and don't put yourself in a position where you seem or become desperate. I have made that mistake. I want to let you all know something that is not going to help right now but will in the future. I have been a hiring manager in the past in two different fields. If I see Sears on a CV/Resume, then I will want to talk to you. Do you know why? It is because I already know that you have seen what failure is and won't want to be part of that again. I hope you would do the same for me.
My condolences to those of you who lost your job today. You should celebrate because today was the first day in the rest of your lives. I know that sick feeling so give yourself a little time and maybe take that time write down key points, both positive and negative, that might help you in your next interview. Some of us will run into each other as this all washes out and we may not know each right now but so much can go without being said if and when some of us do meet.
Forget about eddie. That is what would bother eddie the most.
