Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

Gotta love town gossip!

Rumors going around that this deal may not go through and is just a ploy to get the company to become privatized again. Thoughts?

The state doesn't have any layoffs listed for Sidney. Company had more than one layoff last year but the only one reported is Quad. Don't know if the layoff in 2008 was reported it not. I don't think anyone affected by that layoff received any paperwork regarding the WARN act. How many people have gotten let go over the years?

Isn't there a site where proposed layoffs are generally listed with the State? Is this proposed layoff reported?

Man I really hope this isn't true. I still have a couple of friends up there (one being there their whole lives I guess more or less). Whats unfortunate is both of these individuals are hard core drink as much CAB koolaid as they can drink without choking. AND they are women.

Can it be salvaged? That is a good question. I do believe it can be salvaged with the proper leadership and hard work.

Will they allow it to be salvaged is the more appropriate question. The answer is a most definitely a resounding NO!

Key self appointed leaders of Cabela's and the surrounding communities stand to make millions off of this sale.

Kill the cow take the profit, do not look to the future and see the profits the cow will produce with her young and milk!

It's still a profitable company. You did 1.3 bill in q4. There was positive net income on the year. Your board and your execs are making you think BP is your only hope. Thats total bull. They just want to get paid and retire and get out of there. Don't listen to them. Selling to BP is the death blow to Sidney ... I promise you of that. I was abused by corporate America and I also abused people. I know exactly what I'm talking about. The next generation needs to step up right now or you're all done. You have a strong brand ... you can rebuild.

I don't understand how Cabela's could go private after this? I mean, unless they declare bankruptcy? Otherwise there's no money coming in to buy back all that open stock on the market. Sales are down, employees are leaving in droves to find other jobs, and the brand doesn't make any money. Direction from the E-Team changes daily. And for the people doubting the 3/3 deadline, I've seen a lot of very accurate news come out of the forum in the past 2 years.

Great points - thank you! And on the lay offs, you are in complete denial. Lower sales, future buy out - how on earth could you believe differently the writing is on the wall and the ships commander is a fool

Your board sold you to the worst possible buyer. BP already has an employee doing your job down in Missouri. What is the #1 rule in a buyout like this. ELIMINATE REDUNDANCY. Why do you think private equity couldn't match $65.50 per share? Because they don't have the Salary & Wages line to eliminate after the deal is consummated. Your E team is doing a great job by selling you a bill of goods ... oh everything is going to be fine. Please! You better pray to God this deal to sell to BP falls apart! Stay public and keep fighting. Maybe get some Directors that are older than 40 and have a post graduate education. Maybe get a Merchandising VP that has an an actual background in merchandising. Get in the friggin' game over there! You screwed up a gold mine. You had the most powerful brand in the industry. You still do ... FIGHT FOR IT. Vote against your board and your E Team and get your company back! Your town! Your way of life!

Who are you referring to - "Big Dog calling you out on this one, validate your statement, cite your sources. Not just hearsay if you will not state your sources then you are not any better than the rest of the small minded big mouthed trouble makers in Sidney". There are lot so statements on here - who are you profiling? We can ask the same for you

Yes yes yes keep those rumors hopping about the lay off. Everybody knows that when the deal falls through Cabela's will return to a private venture,. Everybody who left will come back all the small businesses will return to the area and things will be better than before,. This is just Cabela's going through growing pains. You will see.

Actually D--k and Mary were very troubled about what happened once Tommy and his crew of misfits started creating chaos, throwing away so many people who made it all work and destroying the company - D--k was especially troubled with what Tommy was doing. And Jim, when the decision to remove the aquarium in Sidney was made to allow for a couple hundred more square feet of selling space, he was livid yet laughed at by Tommy when he tried to reverse the decision. Tommy is not a fall guy, simply a money hungry loser who seen money to grab. Unfortunately he has been so inept, that it is all starting to unravel and doing so before he can move on. As with A previous post, Karma is finally catching up with him.

The Cabelas had every right to go public yet once they did, they really gave up control beyond advisory. They have not driven the company to the dirt, Tommy has.

tdz -i'd love to be a dependent of Tommy's so that at least get some of the money :) I'm sure Tommy had a job to do when he was hired - too bad for all the employees of Cabelas and the town of Sidney.

I have a question. Does anyone think Tommy is what you call a "Fallguy?" Purposely hired from the Cabelas family (due to age and retirement) to destroy the company. So they can continue to live in Sidney without getting blamed for destroying lives. I read a comment on here along time ago about that very scenario. It made perfect sense to me. What do you think? I really wish I could find that comment. It went into great detail, even talk about Elliot Investments. It was very interesting.

Dear 1up -I don't have anything against anyone....i thought this site was to share information - for you to say "I hope the person who has this "special VP source" gets found out and gets laid off first LOL" is getting personal - this isn't what this site is for.

I have lived many different places,. When I relocated to Sh--ney I was informed there was small town gossip and politics and there was Sh--ney.

Now that I was forced to relocate due to the debacle I now see how true it is.

Ninety percent of what you hear in that little hell hole is garbage.

I put no stock in what is being said around the community.

Just small kinds and big mouths with nothing better to do than cause hate, discontent and to destroy innocent lives.

I am so thankful I was forced to relocate due to employment.

In the end, Cabelas does not give a $!&#% about you or this town. The grass is definitely greener on the other side. Also, I hope the person who has this "special VP source" gets found out and gets laid off first LOL.

Fantasy. There will be millions to pay back in cancellation fees and the stock will fall making execs poorer. Not going to happen if they can help it.

Thank God we rented an apartment and didn't buy a house.....this was 4 years ago and we were surprised at the prices then (way overpriced)....now, 1/2 off housing compared to then - i feel it will only go lower. Hopefully there are some farmers/ranchers that can now afford housing in town - this will be the only good thing that comes out of the fiasco.

The Chaos is planned - it is a Tommy trademark. Think about his tenure, it has been chaos from the very start - it effectively breaks down the employees and allows for changes that would never be thinkable during a teamwork inspired environment. Hard to understand when within the fire yet very easy to see when outside the fence. This tactic is used often to ensure that no one notices the disassembly of a company. Unfortunately it is very easy to continue down this path beyond the initial intention or goal. Such is the case here and what is really unfortunate is that a lot of good employees are slaughtered in the process for no other reason than getting in the way. Think of it within your groups, how many good people have been quieted by being pushed out in that they recognized the real issues. Scary when you think of it. If there is one thing that is occurring it is true Karma. Cabelas always was the rebel, doing it differently and in the end, the Tommy misfits are becoming the laughing stock of the industry because they screwed up a great company and it really did not take long. Simply amazing. The spirit of what made it such a great company is turning its head on the crusaders who are out to rape and pillage, and trust me, it is not over yet. Grab some popcorn and watch the continued comedy of Tommy.

What is really funny is that there was a push before buyout deal announced by a certain past employee - couldn't pull it off and what is really interesting is that that group was part of the go public push. They made multi millions off the deal and then wanted to "save" the company and with who - the player that made it all happen are gone, the company is decimated and lacks users and passion and has a very bad rap both with customers and vendors. Step away from the company and it is a joke - the next Gander. Tommy thought he could really show how successful it could be by bringing a group of big box know it All's - and look where Cabelas is today. It is the joke of the industry. Going private - that is a wet dream and simply a way of hanging on to what is soon gone.

Seriously?? Look at Tommy's past...he is known for selling off companies. Has anyone seen him around town lately (or ever)? When was the last time you saw him having lunch/dinner in Sidney? He's busy renegotiating the deal from $65 to $52. He's all about the $$ and not about the people. Layoffs coming 3/3 to Corporate in Sidney...it's all part of the plan.......yes, I have sources, VP Level.

We'll be "Private" again if the sale DOES go through - I'm starting to think the family wants out since they are getting up in years & I don't see where any of the offspring became involved with the company - THAT, I believe is why we were stuck with Tommy, he has experience getting companies sold off and if this sale implodes then that future concerns me as an employee. The current group running this company can't make their minds up on anything long term, we have nothing but constant change, no stability, we've lost too many managers/employees who understood what made us successful and we have now replaced them with managers/employees that don't understand the "Outdoors" mentality noor the fact that we are Destination stores where people come to talk & learn from those that use the items we sell - or that we used to be

Do your own research. Multiple news site are reporting that the merger may not go through because of hurdles . We will have to wait and see if the layoff rumor is true .Sometimes the leaks on this site are spot on
