Your 2017 HPE vacation - what impacts with newco?

So, we started 2017 with our vacation re-charged with 3, 4, or 5 weeks vacation. Come 1 April, do you think that newco with let you keep all of that to be consumed by 31 December (regardless of newco's fiscal year)? I don't know. Seems unlikely doesn't it? I'm going to consume mine down to two weeks and hope those 2 are preserved past 1 April.

How does flex vacation time work? How do you know how much time you can take? Who decides on how much time you get? I'm confused.

Something to think about for strong teams with strong client support: Decide as a team if you are willing to sink or swim together, then do not accept lower pay as a group. Otherwise NewCo will take the opportunity to transition your existing contract with a higher margin by "aligning" salaries and cutting vacation time. It's a two-way street.

Here is the US holiday schedule for CSC. We used to get two days at Thanksgiving and Christmas, but now we have two floating holidays that may be used on those days, or for another day of the employees choosing.

New Year's Day Monday, January 2, 2017

Presidents' Day Monday, February 20, 2017

Memorial Day Monday, May 29, 2017

Independence Day Tuesday, July 4, 2017

Labor Day Monday, September 4, 2017

Thanksgiving Day Thursday, November 23, 2017

Christmas Day Monday, December 25, 2017

Vacation is flexible - no vacation is accrued, and it must be approved by your manager. The downside to the employee is that there is no payout of unused vacation at the end of the year, or when leaving the company. The upside to the company is that employee-accrued vacation is a liability on the books, so this liability is removed and profitability is improved. The onus is now on the employee to balance vacation and work, and work with his/her manager. It's a different way to work, but it should not affect your actual vacation time. It's been a good thing for me - prior to this policy I only had two weeks vacation, and last year on flex vacation I took almost five weeks. I expect to do the same this year.

How about burn all of your vacation by April 1...... merger happens and HPE employees are re-org to a new CSC Manager/Team who has no clue what you took for vacation..... then take advantage of a full new block of VACA. Management screws us this is how we return the favor. LOL

Wait til job code realignments come and we all have to take 20% pay cuts as HPE employees. You know they are going to align to CSC pay scales which will be another opportunity to lower our pay. Remember when Mark Hurd did that. Many folks are still not back to their pay prior to the cut. Hard to do with no raises or 1 percenters ... My advise we all need to look for a better place to work that actually values employees.

Does CSC have a shut down week at the end of the year?

Is flexible vacation schedule for all functions?

can somebody from CSC post the holiday calendar? do they really count the day after thanksgiving as a floating holiday? here at HPE, they decided that July 3rd would be a mandatory floating holiday this year.

Sounds like a great approach until you get WFRd and then you have to pay back what you didn't earn.

They did not take away the day after thanksgiving. That is a floater holiday.

And CSC took away one of our paid-holiday days for 2017. In the past we were given 2 days for Thanksgiving. I'm sure they will take away our birthday next.

That's precisely the point - the new vacation policy is to not owe the employee any accrued time when they let you go

CSC Employee here.. Speaking internally about our vacation policies.. All Vacation had to be used by Dec 31 (what's been accrued). We are now using a "flexible vacation" schedule.. IE take what you want when you can but it has to be manager approved and cause no impacts to the client or any projects in the pipe line. My opinion that's less they have to pay us if we get canned once Newco comes into existence.
