Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

The bully took your lunch money.. And he's waiting to see what you do next. So what are going to do? Let him keep taking your lunch money?

As a 20 year field tech for Verizon I would not want to even imagine what I would have if we didn't have a union. Most likely be in the same boat as you guys.

But thank God I don't have to worry about that. So what are you guys going to do? Quit and take your talent to Verizon (they are hiring )? Or is time to sit down and bargin a contract and stop the bullying?

At least you have a choice. Will you be my coworker or my union brother?

Look it how close these votes were. Compare that to all the categories you have in your post and I think you guys are closer than you think.

You need the majority to win. That is not everyone, it's a simple majority. 51%.

My question to you is, at this point with everything you lost (including your pension back in 2008) why aren't more people quiting ? This sit back and let see what happens attitude blow my mind .

Or voting yes and keeping their mouth shut. No need to rally at work. It's none of the company's business what you do after work.

But the categories you have posted explain how things are with the company you work for. And that's how Cablevision wants it.

Do you want a contract? Everyone talks about the Brooklyn contract. Those guys pulled it off and that was a starting point. And they negotiated a contract without any other cablevision garage at the bargaining table.

If you guys pulled together, it would be just like Verizon, with everyone at one table.

last week, Bronx techs voted NO to union (113 - 92) --- very difficult to organize a shop that is completely polarized (by design of course)

techs fall into one of the following categories:

1) pro-company rookie brainwashed by management to think that union is bad / continuously told never to associate themselves with any of those lazy old-timers / coddled by their supervisors / have no clue about the struggle of techs that came before them / believes most of what management tells them

2) pro-union rookie that is too afraid to publicly support it due to fear of retaliation.

3) pro-company veteran that actually thinks a union cannot do anything for them / selfish attitude / hates dues / perfectly okay with other people losing their jobs just as long as they're not affected

4) pro-union veteran not afraid to stand up on the front lines / always willing to exercise their right to organize openly / understands that company does not have their best interest and knows only solution is to vote YES to union / knows that management lies 99% of the time.

5) pro-union veteran that is too afraid to openly support due to fear of retaliation / understands the struggle but refuse the involve themselves in it / let the other guys fight it

6) bribed techs / paid off by management to spy and sabotage any union activity

7) stubborn techs / don't care about anything just as long as next week's paycheck is on point.

any suggestions on how to get these guys on the same page before Altice puts us all on the same unemployment line ?
