Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Is our store closing?

Our store lease is coming up this spring. The building is listed with a realtor for lease/sell. Nothing has been said. Any chance that we won't close?

The prior statement is not correct. Our store does about 3 mil a year. Our lease is coming up in the spring and is more than $18,000 but we are not closing.

If your store is making 4.5 million or less every year, and your store is paying is more than $18,000 in rent a month. I promise you your stores closing, Staples is taking advantage of leases coming up, they are not even negotiating to try to get a cheaper rate. By 2020 staples will have anywhere from 200 to 250 stores around but only in big markets so they can promote themselves. That's the only place where Staples is willing to pay the extra buck for leases. I left Staples home office about 6 months ago.

My advice to you is get out ASAP, If you don't know how to write a resume have someone write one for you. My advice to you is look outside of retail, retell really isn't there anymore Black Friday should be A big indication. You are all important and deserve the best and happiness, Staples isn't that. Do what's right for you.

I concur with @Li34x3Q-1xrb.

I was transferred to a store in May one year and it was closed shortly after BTS ( I was offered no severance, but was transferred to a store an hour away from my home, hoping I'd just quit)

Another GM who ran the store that the DM worked out of told me the DM knew my store would close that April.

They likely won't make it "official" and announce it until after the fiscal year. They likely believe if associates are told in Jan they won't try as hard through the month.

Didn't you get the email? Oh that's right, corporate didn't feel the need to share it with you and the employees. They have to make $$$. Fiscal year 2016 is almost over.

Comunication is not important, just sell!!! Never you mind the idiot hiding behind the curtain.
