Yup, got walked out the door at Rsa on the 11th. Nothing to do with performance, but completely politically based. Decision made at director level. These people think they are G_d. If you disagree with them or stand up for yourself you are on their list for the next layoff. Never mind that they are not making the best business decision. It's all about keeping themselves in power.

Having been RIF'd from both companies in the past I can say the agreements on the EMC side are more Draconian than those on the Dell side and Dell had the better package overall although that was several years post EMC exit.

For those in Massachusetts, non-compete agreements aren't enforceable in this state and at this point I doubt Dell would enforce it anyway, better to not get the negative press that a possible legal fight would bring.

Word from my inside contacts is that the Dell cuts are mainly deadwood and non-performers, the EMC cuts are far deeper and across the board

@6mxz: Chances are you signed an employment agreement when you accepted an EMC offer. If you accept the ISP, the agreement is enforced which means not working for a competitor for a year. That may not sit well with a lot of folks and they will need to think about that. EMC enforces the agreement by filing suit in states that recognize it, like in the case of Pure where they filed in DE. If you take a job with a competitor and they find out, they want the severance back. Those in CA may have a different ISP.

Are you forced to sign something on the spot to get the package ? I've read that companies can not require this, that the employee has 23 days to decide.

The current package is some combination of:

Cobra or current health plan for a year

Two week transition and access to a job consultant

10 weeks + 1 week for every year of service up to 26 weeks total. Over that, any additional severance is based on over 55 yo and 5 years in or 20+ years in at any age: at least 5 years is +13 weeks, 10 years +18 weeks, 15 years +22 weeks, 20+ years is 26 weeks. So the max package is 52 weeks.

Can anyone share what the package is like when they let people go? Does everyone who are affected get the same kind of package or is it different for each person? I heard some where that typical package is like 10 weeks base + 1 week for every year of service. Is this true?

Brutal. There are many companies hiring and everyone should be fine. There are so many better companies to work for. I was with EMC for twelve years. Dropped like a bad habit. The tides have changed. It's not the family like environment it once was. Good riddance.

@3qvk Source is us internal to the org...confirmed layoffs are massive in Hopkinton, approaching 100 at that location alone.

It is confirmed Admin roles and non-profiting divisions will be targeted

This is at least the second round! There was one in November (a bit smaller I think). And I thibnk there were some other, more targeted layoffs before that.

I got walked out this morning from Hopkinton. I'm in engineeting for 15 years. This isn't just duplicate functions like HR, legal, purchasing. Sad day. Got a pretty nice package though.

What's the source of this?

@LdrjuUa-1hww,

10-15% for the combined Dell/EMC is like 17K to 26K people.

That's a lot of layoffs.
