I start work for Intel January 3rd after lots of "CHECKING" as a green badge for 12 to 18 months to possible permanent. Weird how things aren't always as they seem.

Rolling Stone long ago did a great piece on the Pink Floyd 2005 reunion, where David Gilmour was quoted saying that reuniting with Roger Waters after years of acrimony was 'a bit like shagging one's ex-wife'.
OP, are you getting the analogy?
OP, the whole purpose of the checking is to make you obedient and servant to these bull-crapers as much as they can.
Several reasons how they do that:
[1] They impress you by "seriousness" how the checking is done.
[2] They would like to explore all possibilities to find if your past is "troubling" for them (you are too much of a free will).
[3] Their managers have a special approach for impressing, lot of (empty) talks, and lot of "successful stories" they did in INTEL in The Past.
[4] FOCAL is introduced by just as non-important process somehow there as a yearly performance measure, which is nothing.
I should say that all of them selling this philosophy of a "success" to you should go to serious psychiatric evaluation! :-)
