Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

My district manager just informed me that the bonuses will be delayed until May this year. Has anyone else heard this?

"Who gets bonuses the upper management have not seen them in years"

What is your definition of "upper management"? RVPs and up? They have received far more compensation than they deserve. Even when they get fired they get paid out for the rest of the year, and then get a golden parachute on top of that.

Upper management doesn't need bonuses because they are constantly rewarded for failure - and that is what they constantly do - fail.

DM should have probably kept his mouth shut if this is true.

For 30 years they have been able to do this by the end of Feb for March or early April payout.

If this is indeed the case they should clarify whether or not employees that were in position on Feb 1st will get their bonus whether they quit/terminated or RIF'd between now and when they finally pay out.

So, no confirmation of this rumor from anyone else? Just the usual pile on discontented speculations from the same person... If anyone else can confirm from a reliable source that would be nice information to know. Don't they normally pay out bonuses in mid-March, so if they are going to delay them we'd probably be hearing something official anytime now. Unless, this is just another rumor...

Typical Staples. Cut people every year who work hard to pad the pockets of those at the top. This seems like an Enron situation to me. Is Staples really profitable or just creative with finances?

They are probably planning to let more people go between now an April.

Either layoffs due to elimination of positions, store closures, BS firings for "poor performance", or the usual harass them to hell and make them quit routine. Then they will turn around and claim if you were not employed on May 1 you do not qualify for bonus payout.

LOL - I was let go 2 weeks before my expected bonus was paid out and they claimed it was "illegal" to award me the payout even though I was employed through the end of that FY.

So as others have said - they are either looking for ways to get out of all payouts (not the execs of course), select payouts or they need to figure out where the money is coming from.

They are probably going to try to tie your fy '16 bonus to 1st qtr '17 results so as to reduce or eliminate payouts.

It just gives them more time to figure out an excuse to deny rank and file employees their due bonuses while giving the execs theirs (and increasing them)
