Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Severance

Does anyone know what's the severance package? Have they changed anything? I haven't been axed yet, but have a horrible gut feeling that it's my turn. If not today, one of these days, anyways. This waiting is killing me. And I know it doesn't help much to worry - If it happens, happens, but I can't help myself. Good luck to all. God bless.

I hope the people that were let go yesterday do get their severance. Like myself, I was laid off on January 19th and have yet to receive a penny. Im doing something else so other than the unused vacation time, I don't care about the rest. However most if not, all the leads that were let go still haven't received their payment. It's disgusting how this company has handled the situation and how they are making it difficult to collect their pay.

I do not know what happened to my post but I am reposting it. My job was eliminated March 2016. I was hourly and worked for Sears for 38 years and received max 8 weeks of severance paid every two weeks just like my paycheck. I had 5 weeks of vacation saved and I received it in a lump Doealso received 6 months of unemployment which is the max allowed in my state. I will never set foot in a Sears or Kmart again which will not be hard to do since the last Kmart in my area is closing in April and there are only two Sears stores left.

I hope you have better luck actually getting your severance than the Kmart associates who faced layoffs on January 19. Many of them are still fighting to get there first payment of severance over a month later. It is really sad people who were making $300 - $400 per week living paycheck to paycheck are having to go without after verbal and written promises of salary continuation have come up empty.

I have heard it's 8 weeks from those who have been laid off...some with the company more than 10 years. This is on the Kmart side. Also, they are making it difficult to collect severance...today on the Kmart side Visual merchandisers were laid off. So far this blog has been accurate with the information and dates.

Check first before filing.

Reduction in force = reason for separation = qualify for unemployment

Minimum for salaried associates is 60 days (WARN Act). You may get more if you've been there longer. Definitely NOT 2-weeks for every year service...that was gone 15 years ago. Although HR did say that pkgs are different for different levels.

I retired from Sears fls in August after 20 years in appliances. HR told me the max was 8 weeks if you were laid off. So 8 years was 8 weeks as was 30, 40 etc.
