Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

Writing on the wall, put aside your emotions and read it.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. Like them or not the Dolan are gone. They sold the business and have moved on. They have no control on what the new owners do with it. Past articles on Fierce Cable have stated that other MSO'S are looking to go wireless in the future. Wireless will free an operator from franchise boundaries and allow them to sell their product literally worldwide. Altice is trying to put themselves in position to operate and compete in the most lucrative market in the world. They are smarter than some people think. The telecomm business is and has always been evolving and changing. The government is looking to find a way to secure their piece of the pie via regulations that exist now and regulations that will exist in the future. As in all things some people will be negatively affected and like it or not change always happens and won't stop. See the truth and make a decision based on what is best for you and your families. Success in most cases is anticipating change, making the rules work for you by knowing them and how and when they affect you. Union or not you will either decide for yourself or the decision will be made for you by circumstances eventually.

I respectfully disagree. Did not forget, see 1st reply for additional comments posted. I fully agree with your comments. As a matter of fact the only things we did not point out are the facts that electric utilities have the largest fiber networks overall in the country and due to the fact that they intentionally over built their networks they are and have been renting out fiber space for years. They could become a Goliath of a competitor if they wanted too. That's why back when they started rebuilding their infrastructure with fiber optic cable the cable industry started buying all the fiber they could in an attempt to slow them down by causing a shortage of fiber optic cable availability in the country. A truth of this evolution will be that no where near the amount of current technicians in the company (or industry overall) will be needed to service customers. Headed techs will be the safest and have the best longevity. A percentage of OSP techs will survive. Installation will be wireless, Construction will be part of ATS. Field techs if at all still needed will be reduced to swapping out modems and routers. That work will definitely go to a contractor be it ATS, Prince or whoever else is around down the road and Altice is being smart by setting up ATS and getting a piece of that pie as well. Altice is being honest about the fact that ATS employees may do work for other companies, that is more writing on the wall. Look at the big picture folks, not just what is happening immediately around you.

You are forgetting that everyone who streams wireless are going to need an Internet service provider. Those who build an Internet access network service will be truly the ones who shall make the most $$$ out of all this. Everyone will have to pay them to stream at home. The wireless phone companies can only handle so much streaming they are now getting dependent on the cable and fiber network providers to haul overloads of traffic. If you're every thinking of making money in the future bet your stockmarket portfolio on the internet service providers. The cable and fiber networks. All those private networks ABC NBC FOX YES network HBO STARZ SHOWTIME ETC. will never work out not without fiber and cable Internet service providers. You will be buying viewing service from them personally, then you would have to buy Internet service from one of these provider. It's a win win for the fiber and cable services. Absolutely No more overhead fees to carry those networks. All they do is provide every needed household Internet service. Now who's making the $$$$$$$.

Consider the fact that every media service has, is, or will launch their own wireless streaming service. They will eventually not need a traditional wired system to distribute their product. The next time a company refuses to pay what they want they can just run ads telling your customers to download their app and watch the service through it. Only a matter of time. Eventually every person will be able to pay for only the channels they want/watch. Traditional service providers will evolve into companies that own the wireless networks that are used to distribute these services. Consider the fact that Verizon stopped building their fiber network even with the success they were having. Consider the fact that some companies like Comcast are buying networks instead of doing traditional rebuilds. Yes the change will take time but it has already started. Smart TV 's were developed and marketed to watch more than Netflix.
