There was a town that the weather forecasters were warning was going to get flooded by a coming storm. The weatherman told everybody to get out to higher ground or else they would probably drown. All the townspeople except for one old religious man heeded the warning and left town. Soon the storm started and the streets began to fill up with water. The authorites were aware that this man had not vacated and so they sent a big truck to his door to ask if he was now ready to leave. "No, If I need savin', God will save me!" he said. An hour later the water was up above the first floor of his house and he had to retreat to the upper floor. The authorities then sent a boat to his house and once again asked the man if he was ready to leave. "No, God will save me!" he said. two more hours pass and the second floor is underwater. The man has to retreat up to his roof and sit at the very peak of it. The authorities decide to try one more time and send a helicopter in the driving rain to pick him up. The old man once again refuses the help. "No, God will save me!". "OK, but we're not coming back anymore!" says the pilot. Ten minutes later the water has reached over the top of the roof and the man has nowhere left to go and he drowns. When he gets to heaven he meets his maker face to face and says "WeIl God, I am glad I'm here instead of the other place but I have to tell you, I'm a bit disappointed. I always thought you would save me if I was in danger." God looks at the old man and says " I love you my son, but you are dumber than a tree stump! I sent a truck , a boat and a helicopter for you and you refused them all".
Do you get the point I'm trying to make? Maybe instead of just hoping that things will work out, you can use tools at your disposal (the union) to increase your odds of survival?
