In the past some Boeing Charleston white collar employees stated they were told by managers that since the site was non-union they would be immune from layoffs (similar to Japanese auto plants in right to work states) but there were layoffs in 2016. Does anyone know if they are again going to make those unofficial promises to sway the union vote? Or does nobody at the site trust management anymore?

A big portion of the 787 production engineering staff has been assigned to 777X program and grouped in a different building. This way management has been able to reduce the headcount on 787.
