Thread regarding Sears layoffs

5-3-2-1 the end of the company.

So everyone knows by now how much they are pushing the new 5-3-2-1 card. But an incident today had to be the one thing that told me this is their plan to save the company. So here's my story: So I'm running my register (the only one open) and I have about seven people in my line. Most are getting a little antsy because it is taking so long to check out. The registers are slow, the pin pads don't work half the time, the SYW is confusing and now I have to ask it they are SYW members, do they want a PA with some items and now the new credit card. So, here is where it gets good. Our DM came to the store to make sure we are asking and signing up the 5 people per day. SO he is behind me watching me check people out, watching as the line gets longer, watching as I ask my questions. Well, no one wants to sign up for anything but every person that declines the DM catches them as they are leaving and starts telling them about the 5-3-2-1 card.

But it gets better. One lady comes up and she has her kids with her and she has been in line for around 10 minutes. So I go through the Sign-up jargon and half way through she says, "no to everything just check me out please" I apologize and tell her I am required to ask. She tells me that is why most people won't shop here becasue they get hassled to sign up for something. Well, my DM jumps in and starts to tell her how great the 5-3-2-1 card is and how it would be a shame she lost out on all those points. Finally, the lady just leaves her cart and walks out. The next person in line does the same becasue they don;t want to be hassled either. And the third person just tells me "don't even ask".

But wait there's more. Then my DM says "Well those people don;t really understand what a great deal they are missing and it is there loss. Some people just don;t want to save money" He says this right in front of the other customers still waiting. You could see every customers light bulb go on at once seeing that it was not about sales, customer service or anything else it was all about 5-3-2-1 sign ups.

Everyone was real nice to me even telling me they were sorry I had to ask, but if they can see through this sham of a program and the personal information grab that it is. The company is relying on the personal information they will sell to save the company---Good luck with that.

You actually had that many customers?

Just remember that purchases made at a restaurant inside of a bakery do not get 3% but only 1% in points. You could always ask you DM why that is the case. My DM is terrified of the fact that I will quit with one false word. I don't care what any of the zeros say up the flagpoles and I am a manager.

Does your DM really think that you pumping for CItiFraud is really going to turn the company around?

I always steal pens from managers when I talking to them face to face so that they have to borrow one from me. Remember my OCD with pens. I NEVER run out of pens and that has gone on long before I ever worked for Sears. I hate cheap pens.

Decent plain Bic pens cost about $2 a dozen. Not a big hit to the P&L.

You story sounds about right for FLS. 50% of "Members" who walk into Auto are asking for help for looking someone to help them and we point them in the right direction because we are the only people that they see. I am not am FLS. 50% of inbound phone calls have nothing to with auto.

It's just ridiculous. Somebody will have to write about the experience and I am experiencing it.

So funny!!! I work in the pharmacy so I don't bother with any of those stupid questions. Luckily the store managers don't bother us about our register metrics. A lot of customers just come to our line to check out because they know it will be faster and an overall more enjoyable experience.

I had a few customers ask me why we had someone at the front table trying to sign people up for the 5-3-2-1 and a few associates walking around with clip boards trying to sign people up but we only had one register open with 15 people in line. Good question.

I have noticed that people more people seem leary about a Sears credit card. The amount back is great but most myself included would rather have a lower percentage back that can be used out side of a retail store, such as a simple credit on the bill. I would rather get a 3% credit on my credit card bill for gas than 5% back that I have to spent in Sears or Kmart and that will expire. People are loosing faith in the company and more and more people are telling me they don't want to sign up for SYW becomes they don't want their info sold. Who ever came up with this plan either thinks that cuatomer loyalty is rock solid and the general puplic have undying faith in a name or that individual people are stupid. It is not that hard in this day and age for someone to go on their phone and look up info about the pitches the people ahead of them are getting and decide beforehand they want nothing to do with any of it.
