Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Why do we allow certain people to lower the price of laptops to include the price of the warranty and pass it off as price matching.

Why do we allow certain people to lower the price of laptops to include the price of the warranty and pass it off as price matching.

We have someone in our district being hailed a hero for his practice. The customer doesn't ask for the price match. He has the Best Buy ad nearby and matched to it anyway, saving the money for the customer. He is a hero for all the ESP sales in some eyes. But some of us can't bring ourselves to cheat like that. It is called shoveling in NYS and it is illegal. But if you can move on metric, you are a hero.

Once apon a time we used to sell Sprint long distance service at the register. Save $5 off you purchase today by signing up with sprint. The store succeeded at that one metric and were heroes. Of course the were so focused on that metric they went into the red and the store closed. Oh well.

I have seen managers get fired for this practice in the past. I have also seen dlpm's and dm's look the other way when it was a golden child. They always have there favorites.

Staples doesn't have to honor them, Square Trade does.

The problem is they are selling the laptops deeply in the red.

Then the customer gets wise and returns the plan and keeps the marked down laptop. That is an Ebay resellers dream.

warrantys won't matter because they're a future cost and Staples won't be around to honor them. This is a common retail trick to generating income today by stealing from the future.

Because it's Staples.

It will show up on price discrepancy reports. Whoever is doing the reports should be notifying the GM.

The ALPM is probably already aware, as they (at least mine) can review the store reports remotely.

If not, they will see the transactions when they audit. The corporate office also monitors for this behavior.

Sooner or later they will get in trouble.
