Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

"Obeeone, how come you weren't supporting us like this back in 2012 ?? you were 100% anti-union back then!"

If YOU are going to say that YOU KNEW that the Dolans would be selling the company 4 YEARS LATER.... an event NO ONE can predict THAT FAR in advance, then quite frankly, YOU should quit your job and play the Lottery. YOU knew this was going to happen WAY AHEAD of everyone else. Surely it should be easy for YOU to predict the next drawing for Mega-Millions. YOU are indeed blessed.

But I rely on facts, not fiction. I rely on data and not "may-bees." And here are the facts for 2012: BEFORE the union vote was taken, Dolan had approved $2- to $9-an-hour pay increases everywhere in the company—except in Brooklyn’s unionized shops. The Bronx voted 121-43 AGAINST. It wasn't even close. It was a crush. So, are you telling me that I should've persuaded everyone to DENY the increases and vote for the union? That at 40 hours a week (excluding overtime) ... tell everyone to deny a $80 minimum a week salary increase in their pockets? WHAT DRUGS ARE YOU TAKING? You can't compare the ATMOSPHERE of TODAY to the atmosphere of yesterday. As times change one's thinking and course of action needs to change. Otherwise, you'll be left in the dust. Just ask senior citizens if the times will ever change to the way it used to be. THEY NEVER WILL. So, you adapt. You change. You rethink strategies. You change bank accounts because another is paying higher interest. You choose what is best for you and your family under present conditions. YOU CHANGE. In 2012, Cablevision stock dangled between $10-13 per share. For years rumors circulated that the Dolans were selling. ALL B.S. But I had told everyone in my depot that when it hits $22 and over.... they would sell. And that's because I knew that James Dolan was more interested in the Knicks and MSG than Cablevision. It was no secret everyone knew he had very little knowledge of cable. Secondly, his use of the english language and piecing together words during speaking engagements was NOT his forte. Thirdly, he has a band and perhaps, considers himself to be a rock star. And lastly.... he was tired of the whole thing. But when I left in 2015 the stock was at $25 and I informed everyone that he was going to sell and to get the f--k out. It's all about opportunity and what's best for the individual. The vote reflected what the technicians felt was best for them. AND NO ONE KNEW AT THE TIME future events, that some french guy will buy Cablevision 3 years from now. NO ONE. And, I'll go even further. Even if the union was voted in at that time, there would have been NO SALARY INCREASES. Increases which Brooklyn did not receive. Wages would've been frozen in the same length of time - THREE YEARS. Cablevision would still be up for sale. Being unionized does not stop a company from being sold. And YOU, my friend, should've entered the HR office and turned down and refuse to accept the increase... if you felt it was the right thing to do. BUT YOU DIDN"T. So I ask you.... will your mind stay in 2012.... or move forward to 2017? Einstein once said, "“The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.” And George Bernard Shaw said, "“Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”

Is that YOU? Get the guys together and make the change !!!!

“If I were going to sell the Company I wouldn't take the cash flow down....."

What he was saying was that the stock price was TOO LOW for him to consider a sale. I remember that meeting well. And it rang a bell for me. I knew right there that he was sick and tired of the whole operation. His demeanor in that meeting spoke volumes. Hindsight is 20/20. But I'm glad you're pumped up. Now take off the gloves and do what you gotta do !!!

Obeeone, The fact that we couldn't have possibly known what Dolan was going to do with his company is the very reason why we needed to unionize back in 2012.

Had the Bronx voted yes, things would be much different than they are right now! I'm sure you'd agree.

Dolan announced his bribe in early April of 2012, we received the bribe in our paychecks in May 2012, and our election was June 28th, 2012. We had an overwhelming majority of union support. We were telling techs, "okay, we just got paid off but we still need to vote yes!". We thought we still had the support going into the election but techs obviously flipped.

During Dolan's unprecedented visit to the Bronx shop, he specifically stated that he was NOT selling:

“If I were going to sell the Company I wouldn't take the cash flow down. I would have sold it 6 months ago. Don't anticipate a sale. I'm not secure in a union environment as long as there is a contract. The best thing to do is to learn and advance where the company cannot do without you...” James Dolan 2012

he also said this in a memo:

"Our company has a very bright future and I want you to be a part of it. Your best chance for job security is voting to work directly with management and evolving with us, rather than taking the risk of putting the CWA between you and Cablevision."

Here's an audio clip of Barry Monopoli in a meeting with technicians right before the election stating that Dolan was NOT selling the company.
