Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

401(k) Has it gotten better?

I have been away from Staples since the last big purge which was in August of 2015. I was with the company for quite some time, and I saw over the years that the benefits of the 401(k) kept on getting worse. When I finally left, the offering wasn't really that good, and the "3%" match at 50 cents on the dollar really s---ed. To make matters worse if you left before the end of the year, you lost your company "half match" all together for that year.

Needless to say, I work for another company now. The 401(k) is awesome, I have a good selection of funds, and the company matches me dollar for dollar up to 4% and they give a discretionary 1% on top of that as well. I am looking forward to this 401(k) overtaking the amount in my Staples 401(k) in little to no time.

People if you still work for Staples, get away, there are so many benefits packages that blow away the weak one that Staples has! Leave the company, it has left a bad taste in the mouth of many. 'nuff said.

Staples s---s in general. I was a g.m. there for 15 years. First ten were great. Last five misserilble. The day R.S. took over when Stiemburg retired everything started to change and not for the better. the company now is a shell of it self. I was in a once nice store in Indiana last week. It was dirty, out of stock and seen all of 3 customers in the middle of the afternoon and 2 associates. If you still work on the retail side of the business you need to get out it looks like a misserilble place to be.

Companies that are failing and with no hope are still in business. Not for long... but still in business and require people to hold postions and be the face of the failing company. If you are untalented and hung around for long enough in that failing company, then you get promoted to a higher position getting paid way less than your predecessor in the company's hay day. Staples doesn't offer anything great to anyone. Not to their associates, not to their customers. And their benefits reflect it. It's over. The ones in charge are the bottom of the barrel and are getting paid less for sticking around and being the mockery of the business world.

Shira and her band of clueless VP's, Directors have a full time job. Waddling around Framingham in their nice outfits and cracking jokes over lunch meetings while the Business goes down the tube.

No, it has not gotten batter for the average qualified employee. I am sure Shira and her stooges have a good plan. But then, you don't really need one when you make more in 6 months then the average employee makes in a lifetime, and you have a nice golden parachute so you are rewarded for failure.
