Thread regarding Zenith Education Group layoffs

REMEMBER WHEN EVEREST HAD ADMISSION LEADERSHIP?

The memo that Zenith obviously did not get is that it was not admissions that put CCi under the microscope. It was corporate bozos trumping up completion and placement stats. So they clean house of the talented admission people who could continue to fill the schools, fill those roles with the incompetent admission leaders we have today and keep all the placement folks who did not then and are not now helping students find jobs.

Zenith has wrecked the admission offices, Mary thinks we are a community college with countless underachievers standing in line to get in. We no longer have Campus Presidents! Instead, Mary without meeting a one of them fires all CPs and promotes their Deans. What she never took the time to understand is that Deans under CCi were nothing more than sales people charged with the responsibility of retention not academics. As a result, today we have students being pushed through pass or not. Attend or not. WTF!!!!! We do not enroll students, train them or place them anymore.

My Christmas wish is that the DOE shuts us down. How can they shut down a 50 year old organizations like ITT and let this continue to go on?

When ECMC took over they had 35,000 students and are now under 10,000.

At the peak Everest had about 100,000 students. Where did they all go?

Obviously the head of admissions cannot hire a qualified admission representative because she has never been in admissions and has no clue. She obviously cannot hire a high school marketer either because she crashed that group into a wall as well. Face it. ZEG does not have admissions leadership, does not have an admissions strategy and that's the way they want it.

The qualifications for the admissions rep are former sales experience and aggressive closing skills.

No, I do not remember when Everest had admission leadership. I remember the Sales Department handing out quotas for the used car salesmen to sign up anyone that breaths.

As harsh as some on this board are, they are correct. Everest should not have about 95% of the students they push through. We do them no good. We put them into debt with nothing to show, we take money from the taxpayers with nothing to show and we keep doing it. A degree from Everest is truly worse than no degree. The graduates go back to minimum wage even with less self esteem than before. I blame the top and many of the female Assistant Deans. They were the ones that set this place up for failure for their own personal game they played to act like a real liberal college. There was a time they could have made it a decent college, but that time has long passed. I think the female liberal control that has been in Everest for too many years really ruined this school. The bleeding heart, pass everyone mentality.

You should be repulsed for taking money from retards that will NEVER get hired for any job paying more than minimum wage. It doesn't matter how you spin it, half of our students couldn't be trained to wind a watch. A major accomplishment for most are getting their shoes on the correct foot within three tries every morning. The other half are so smoked up they can't stay awake for more than 15 minutes. No, I shouldn't be fired, the idiots that are enrolling these short bus riding window lickers should be FIRED.

Classic. Instructors and admissions calling each out, while the schools continue to spiral into oblivion. As a former classroom instructor AND admissions manager (at a different School) U might have a different perspective. Admissions is forced to sign any and all students in an effort to maintain cashflow. Market dynamics dictate that there are fewer "quality" students out there, so instructors end up with large percentages of very challenging students. If you need to blame someone, look to executive management who erased standards - both admissions and academic -in an effort to prop up a failing business model.

To the faculty member posting: calling students poor names is not only devastating to their confidence, it shows you should never be in a position....let alone a paid position....to help and educate. I am repulsed by your name calling of our students. You should be fired.

Do your f##$ing job and recruit quality students. You stupid salesmen think instructors can work miracles with retards that can't comprehend basic math. I don't know how half of them ever graduated high school. Any monkey can be an admission representative, just tell a bunch of lies, point to a line and hand them a pen. As the instructors like to say, the reps are scraping the bottom of the barrel again and signing up all the scum. Try using a little common sense when enrolling students. Oh I forgot, used car salesmen have no common sense.

4qab: Reminder that CCi failed in the most spectacular way in US education history. There is no question that hundreds if not thousands of employees tried to do the right thing. This is undoubtedly true today at Zenith. The fact remains that is yiuabre going to charge a student nearly $20,000 for a certificate or $40,000 for associates degree, with half or more funded or subsidized by the taxpayer, it is reasonable to question the merits of keeping the school alive with outcomes apparently still well below accreditor requirements. I do agree with you that current employees of Zenith should either work to improve those outcomes or leave.

I will lecture you about doing your job, just as you've taken it upon yourself to lecture others. There are criminal background checks, there are qualifications that students have to have to be enrolled, and guess what?? They signed up. They signed up because it's their opportunity to do something more with their lives instead of being limited to low paying minimum wage jobs that don't pay the utility bills. Did you want easy? Do you only want privileged students who had the opportunity of a good education? Then go find it, because hate to break it to you but that was never the type of student our end of the education spectrum attracted. What do you believe is your role here? If your students aren't qualified, then you better make a list of who they are and what they need and March it up the train. Or feel free to put in a little more effort and help someone be what they signed up for. And I stand by my original statement--STFU.

Don't lecture me about doing my job 4ury. I know how to teach and I love teaching the underserved student. What I cannot tolerate is admissions practices that set me and colleagues up for failure. We cannot teach someone who doesn't want to learn especially when he or she can't read or write. Stop enrolling these students. Zenith was supposed to be different. I saw some progress towards improved admissions standards but in the last several months it is obvious that we are again focused on numbers just like CCi. That disappoints me more than anything else. We may add some students but our outcomes will be really bad. And we already saw that movie about what management does when outcomes are so bad that it will affect accreditation. ACCSC won't look the other way. Nor should they.

I know my trade very well and can teach it those who want to learn and have a brain. It's the used car salesmen that go out and get any stupid idiot to mark an X on the dotted line. Half of the sh-- heads admissions enroll can't read, write or add 2 plus 2. Most of them have a criminal record and are only in class to avoid incarceration. If you imbeciles would vet these retards before sending to us maybe this company might stand a chance, but you keep sending all these window lickers and expect scholars. Go back to selling used cars where you came from and leave the education to us professionals.

It never ceases to amaze me how all of my coworkers can continue to trash others, point fingers, etc. The problem is you--it will always be you. Put your big girl panties on and STFU. It's not because Admissions is broken, it's not because Mary or Taylor want you to be something you're not, it's not because the students can't spell. It's because despite everything we've gone through, it's apparent that even if YOU did have a viable answer (which you don't) you wouldn't have the first clue how to make it work. If this does fail, it will always be because you lurk in the background quietly making it that way so you can point the finger at others. Move on. Go work somewhere else. I'm tired of the you.

All of the above is agreed on. How we forget the instructors are pencil whipped. Very few did their true time in the industry and they lack skills to show students new invative ways to do their trade. This in turn pollutes our environment with unskilled labor because of corporate greed.

When recruiters enroll students that can't spell, perform basic math and haven't a smidgen of common sense, they are retards. No matter how much you try, you can't fix stupid. We are educators, not miracle workers. Until admissions realizes that not every person is college material, these schools will continue to fail. If you continue with the CCi mentality in admissions that your purpose is to put asses in classes, we will continue to graduate sub-par students that can't get a job.

Zenith has exactly what they wanted in their admissions leadership. Cochran is a talking puppet that simply regurgitates what she is programmed to say. Nice lady, but no business doing the job she has. I used to take the time to be on her calls, but they are a waste of my time. Not an original thought and if she had one, it would most likely push enrollment lower.

OK, so i would buy into all of you self righteous the students could not spell cat and yadi yadi except for two things.

  1. You scum bags all cashed your check and spent your bonuses

  2. ZEG is taking the same student, has worse instruction, zero placement and you continue to be the pond scum that you are every other week when you cash that check

I will say it again! Admissions did not sink CCi!!!!! Poor instruction, which caused high attrition and the lack of placement is what invited the DOE to the party.

And don't forget leaving half your class out to meet with their parole officers. Or finding out students in your class were on Meagans list. And the police coming on campus nearly every day picking up students with arrest warrants. Those were great admission reps.

And half of those 100,000 students couldn't spell cat. Yep we had a boat load of students back then. It was all about the money and nothing about the education. We had admission reps sitting outside prisons enrolling ex-cons coming out the gate. Reps trolling homeless shelters enrolling people. Yep, it was great back in the prime of CCi. I remember harassing students because they were behind on their Genesis payments. Instructors on PIPS because they had a student drop out. Merit raises based solely on attrition numbers. Changing student grades so they would pass a class. Those were great times weren't they.

It's so ironic how one person thinks they can do better than the other or next person. It's the wrong people that were placed in those certain positions and because of the title (management) they thought they are and will always be untouchable. Power tripping and greed is what got CCI and Zenith get into trouble. At the end of the day, it's not about the students or the company. It's was and always will be about themselves now and always. They never even blinked considering how much the students suffers. Greed and politics is what this company is all about. No more and no less. They eliminated the old management (with the know how's) and brought in or promoted the wrong people. Makes you wonder why the former executives of ECMC resigned which is the parent company of ZEG. The controversies will never end and the company and DOE will always be questionable. No matter how much we all vent and hope that someone with authority will fix the problem or at least fight for the students, it's all hopeless in the end.

It's always been an admissions problem. The admissions staff at CCi sought to enroll ATB students, and when the rules changed, CCi suggested that was a major problem. If admissions found better students, then career services wouldn't have such a problem with placement.
