Whether Da Bidness actually works at corporate or is just a troll (or both) is irrelevant because there are obviously people in Framingham that DO think like he does.

Framingham has driven Staples into the ground, not store associates. We all know there was an economic downturn 8 years ago, and at the same time competition grew and consumer shopping patterns changed. Store traffic took a hit, as did dollars per transaction for the customers that did come in. That was the reason they wasted all the money on the Yacobian Group and VIBE,

Driving conversion and increasing sales is a basic business principle. The problem was (is) that they made such a big deal about it while at the same time CUTTING payroll and management positions in stores. Pass-bys and MODs made no impact on improving conversion because there were not enough associates in the building. It looked good on paper, but in practice it was a joke when implemented in the chaotic environment of understaffed stores.

How can I do pass bys when I am stuck ringing as back up cashier? How can the manager be MOD when they are buried in CPC with a line 10 people deep?

I know it sounds contradictory.... in one paragraph I stated traffic and sales were down, and the next I said there are to many customers and to few associates. One department in Framingham drew up the plans for VIBE. while others were cutting budgets. Bottom line , working in tores burns people out, especially due to conflicting priorities.

Talk about jaded... to blame the failure of Staples on associates stealing or standing around talking is absurd. I really hope you are not in a position that allows you to make decisions at Staples or anywhere else. That's the sort of lazy observation that sinks companies and encourages failure. I'm just going to assume you are a troll.

" when I walk into a store that has customers and there are 4 associates standing at the customer service desk"

Most stores are fortunate to have 4 people working at the same time LOL.

Go ahead be jaded about the true statement "Staples is a business, not a nonprofit entity". You and a lot of people in the stores blame corporate, but think of how many store associates have been termed for stealing. Or when I walk into a store that has customers and there are 4 associates standing at the customer service desk or tech bench just talking, when they could be building profitable sales or getting shelves full. To blame Otis or any other person that is "out of touch with the stores" is ridiculous, there is plenty of blame to be shared across the board.

We are about to see a lot of store closures and a culling of the herd in the RVP and DM positions over the next several months. I don't know about the Peru store specifically, but expect to get the closing notices around the end of this year or beginning of 2017. Our retail footprint is about to get significantly smaller in 2017. If your store survives the next round of cuts the best thing you can do is rally your store team and make your store more successful. Staples is a business, not a nonprofit entity.
