During a video conference a finance director wanted to offer up his audence (all women) some "fatherly advice" he encouraged us all to always have a current resume. Of course this is common sense advice. What is creepy, weird, and patronizing, is a leader who sees his relationship with his reports as a parent child situation. Very s-xist.

"Why was the audience all female?"
Probably to save money. Don't you know that they earn less to do the same work? /s
Ugh. You're all getting worked up arguing about what's NOT going to change. McKesson has zero strategy, zero interest in minorities, zero interest in women (unless you're available for an executive liaison ;). This company doesn't care about sh-- until JHH, JF retire. Which is soon! How can you live you're lives working for this? We have enough to deal with in dealing with the changes I hop(ed) trump will make. Either way. We're screwed. Get the f out!
Why was the audience all female?
Where did that poster even remotely say that it was ok to not respect an employee. "I disagree with you that there are no safe spaces in this world where you can expect respect as part of a career". The poster never said anything about respecting a person. They were merely trying to say to stop labeling every single thing as being s-xist! If it were a female trying to give "motherly advice", would she have reacted the same way? I don't think there was any disrespect at all to that group of women and if he sees this post I am sure he will never, ever try to help them again.
Please tell me what was inappropriate about this man trying to give you advice? At least he seems to care which is not like most of the managers here?
This special snowflake is not a millinial, but a middle age woman who is calling out inappropriate behavior. I am not sure if you have any daughters, but I do. I would not want them to ever put up with this in the workplace. No one should have to.
The 'joys' of being a San Francisco-based company: So many snowflakes.
To the person who told Reptilicus "Little Miss Snowflake, please get over yourself and grow up", your insult to this poster is mean and uncalled for. I disagree with you that there are no safe spaces in this world where you can expect respect as part of a career. Yes there are and I've had the pleasure to work with several.
And guess what? With full employment in most areas of the country, there are plenty of opportunities for roles with corporations (large and small) that respect their employees. Reptilicus, thank you for your post and don't let the turkeys get you down - soar with the eagles. You are so worth it.
@KknrU8f-1sqp: Couldn't have said it better. It's sad that MCK is repeating the exact same mistakes as EPIC did with their India 'adventure'. Sure, they won the lawsuit against Tata for theft of intellectual property, but the damage was done.
I agree with keeping a current, valid resume. And also keeping your skills up to date with a solid network, however, no one should have to work each day wondering if their job is in jeopardy because the CEO and his staff are walking everyone off a bridge! The layoff stigma at McK has been here since 08-09, as a constant threat. I am preparing to leave and so should anyone else who spends each day in fear or if you don't enjoy your job. I don't expect to see McK as a pharmaceutical distributor in the next 5 years. Especially if Trump puts a damper on sending their jobs to India, as they are doing at an alarming rate. Why does McK really think India is more qualified? Genpact is arrogant, discriminatory against female workers, lazy, careless, liars and cheats. I know for a fact they steal our customers information and sell it!
Little miss snowflake, please get over yourself and grow-up!!! There are no safe spaces and "please don't offend my feelings" in the real world. Everything is not s-xist and I'm so tired of hearing from the younger generation how they are soooo offended by everything. I am an older female who has worked in both the corporate and non-corporate arenas. I have dealt with many issues thru the years and worked beside many women who worked very hard and proved their worth so prove yours! This "patriarchal" man that so offended you was trying in no uncertain terms to warn you that corporate life was very unstable and there was no such thing as job security. He has no doubt been thru the turmoils of layoffs many times and was just giving you advice. Quit looking at the world and seeing a s-xist or offensive comment in everything!!!
well if you got laid off you would be part of the group complaining and thinking the "icare" principles are about you and not about how you do your job. First everyone complains about the evil unfeeling corporation (and yep s---s hugely- polluted rivers, raided wilderness, committed theft, made horrible judgement calls, paid CEO's ludicrous amounts and ruined countless lives... hey, you got pizza one Friday a year) but go ahead and crap on that one guy who thought some of you might need an extra hint other than the giant writing on the wall...here let me make it matriarchal-- get your resume in order, save your pennies and dollars, ALWAYS if you work for someone else, especially a corporation, PLAN for a layoff
'Patriarchal'. Oh, that explains everything. You're one of those special snowflakes who think that billion dollar corporations must accommodate your politically left worldview. Good luck with that.
He said let me offer you some fatherly advise. It was patriarchal and offensive.
How is this s-xist? Did he ask you to prepare a current resume because you were women?
I am shocked it could not handle the word s-xist. Weak.
