Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

middle management in for January surprise!

there will be a major realignment of middle management in the downstream area come January. too many money wasting, kickback taking, overpaid managers with unnecessary company assigned vehicles, corporate credit cards, and large expense accounts. management staff currently with motiva will be cut in half after the breakup. some will be offered packages if they meet the requirements, others will not be so lucky. motiva is very "top heavy" with management personnel and shell will save a bundle by cleaning house, and purging the dead wood!

The company is starting to hire people with engineering degrees, to replace the managers at multiple terminals. Most of the current managers have no degree, and only got the position by being a boot licker. Instead of having a manager with a company car, large salary and other perks at each location, this person will have 1 company car, and travel between the terminals, mostly within the various complexes. This is a smart cost cutting measure, and it makes a lot of sense to replace 3 or 4 people, vehicles and salaries with 1 highly qualified person. As for the managers that are being replaced, they will have to post for any open position, or if nothing is available they will shown the door.

will begin very soon, shell calls it a "reset" of the management, but no matter what they call it, the people that will be affected will call it a "kick in the a$$"

September, October seems to be the new timeline to implement this process, but for sure by years end. since the Motiva split, the co. has been closely monitoring the performance of the acquired terminals and the management personnel, to determine the best course of action. this could result in the sale of some assets, the exit from some areas, the elimination of some jobs, and the reassignment of others.

Let the games begin!!!! the process is now underway in the locations acquired by shell as the result of the Motiva divorce. some managers will now be known by different titles with new reporting procedures, and salaries. some management jobs will be eliminated, some non management people will be given new titles, along with raises to do some of the jobs former higher paid managers were previously doing, at much less cost to the company. some of the displaced people, if they are lucky will be offered other lower paying positions, others will just be shown the door. many company assigned vehicles, as well as other perks will be gone. some locations will be offered for sale, which will leave some looking to transfer to remain with the company, further complicating the process. It's all about cutting the fat to save$$$$

Now that Saudi Aramco has agreed to pay Shell 2.2 billion as part of the Motiva break up, the process is moving forward with a new target date of May 1. Soon after that, at least one northeast terminal, already in secret negotiations, will be sold, and it now appears that many Houston based jobs, such as business analysts, and loading support services will be outsourced overseas, all in an effort to reach the 30 billion dollar asset sell off target by 2018.

It appears the company is carefully crafting a plan, which will be implemented soon after the Motiva split, which is on target for April 1st. This is an effort to save money. Too many large salaries, and perks for managers who are doing a job that can be done by someone else with a different title, pays less money, and no company assigned vehicles or unlimited expense accounts. Many who meet the qualifications such as age, and years of service will be offered an incentive package to take early retirement, or just leave the company. This may also apply to non management employees, which will allow some of the newer hires to avoid layoff. Much will also depend on if, and when the company decides to sell some of the northeast terminals, which is something that has been in the rumor pipeline as of late.

Ok, Mr/Ms Know-It-All, where is the big January shake-up? You types push crap news out on these sites, trying to worry hard working family providers into being scared they may not have a job. If you even work at Shell, you should be the first to dust your a-- on the pavement outside a Shell office as you're pitched out, along with your box of "I won this!" Trophies ...go FYS a**hole

As mentioned above, the "realignment" has already begun as of January 1 in some of the southeastern terminals, with more to come before the end of the month. Heads up, middle management, the conference call, or the email will be coming any time now!

The golden years are gone.

Martinez refinery for sale means Anacortes will not be far behind. Also actively selling pipelines, selling 100,000's acres of leased shale oil acreage, exiting Shell One namesake building in downtown Houston, dissolving Motiva, exiting Arctic drilling and LA LNG project, completely screwing up the cold starting of Port Arthur refinery, etc, etc. Shell has fully soured on US operations and investment. The focus will be where BG has operations in South America and many places except US. The BG 300k sf in office space in Houston is also being subleased. Folks, wake up and smell the coffee in the US. Shell is out of here and the cuts are going to be deep and deserved. There are indeed many managers in the US that built mini-empires that are going to crumble soon. Bunch of c&ck s---ers that should be handed the same level of unfairness and brutality they have given other poor bastards under them. I will cry a river you. So f#%k off!!

Word in Houston will be downgrading leads to JG3 and highly discourage "experienced" leads to reapply for them.

Anyone else see this trend else where or can confirm the above?

To borrow a phrase from our next president (yes, I voted for him!) it's time to "drain the swamp" and as posted above, get rid of the snakes, backstabbers, and leeches!!! some reliable intel says many of the people that will be affected have no idea what is coming , and will be more shocked than Hillary Clinton.

Fast and swift. Pull the bandaid off once and for all fast.

Let it be quick

The culture is snakes vs back stabbers.

JG 1 and 2 need to go especially those only hanging on for their package. The fear culture is rampant and it starts top down since they are afraid younger talent will expose how leads are redundant and add or create further waste and verbally preach lean practises but their action add further to overhead.

Operating as a union organization is not effective nor nimble. Time to look into demographics.

Spot on!!!. There is no need for team leads and managers/GMs since every project has a cross-function lead. Most of these team leads & managers add zoro value to Shell.

Good, they need to do this with upstream org as well. Too many over paid useless team leads, Managers in Houston and WoodCreek. This company has too many levels of management, they are completely disconnected from anything that is JG4 and below.....Ben? flatten the organization, make it simpler and increase accoutability for "The Leaders", probably you will have to fire 60% of them, but in the end you will see how Shell will become better place without all these leeches around.........
