Shortly after DHX Media absorbed Nerd Corps last year, there was a lot of reassurances from mgmt that no layoffs would be happening... and then shortly after, the layoffs started. DHX is acquiring smaller media companies like crazy, it's their MO, so just take this as a heads-up. If your employer gets acquired by them, time to start looking elsewhere ASAP. They shut down an entire support department of ~15 people and did widespread cuts to the artists. They never give any notice either. The merger press release was made public before any of the non-mgmt employees were told, and the same goes for the layoffs. If you're in the animation industry, set up a Google Alert for news on your company name. Skip that employee merger meeting and use the time to look for a new job before all the open positions get snapped up by your soon-to-be-former coworkers.
