Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon telling recruiters "Don't hire people with previous Verizon employment."

I guess they prefer people without experience? Or, maybe they just want more H1Bs?

Another idiot who tries to bring race into every conversation. The fact is the idiots in Verizon come from all races.

I heard the same thing. I'm approached weekly by multiple head hunters for Verizon because they can't find the skills or accomplishments to fill the gaps in that pathetic sh-thole.

@1bgs - You brainwashed v creamer. You must be part of the Basking Ridge knob polisher club to think Verizon is a good place to work.

Verizon doesn't give two $hits about anyone. And there is nothing wrong with being a good employee and getting job security in return. It used to be that way and isn't anymore. It's one of the reasons this country is so Brocken and Trump got voted in.

Wake up. Hoping and praying as you say ain't going to do $hit!

@1bgs - OK Lowell. Quit wasting your time posting here and get back to figure out how many employees to RIF next year to maximize your bonus.

I think they meant don't hire ex-associates because they were overpaid with limited capabilities.

1icv - Well maybe because Vz is still a good company to work for.

I've been out in the world in a long career spanning several companies, and while Verizon has issues in my opinion in some ways, in other ways it is way better than many companies out there. The best company environment I ever worked in didn't pay well enough. There is always a trade-off. Verizon is better than many, probably better than most when all things are considered. We learn to ride the waves here, and when it is our turn to get impacted, we hope and pray that we have maintained and improved upon our skill set so we can hop the next wave in another company. No one has a fundamental right to job security. It's common decency if you do a good job, but not a right.

What was mentioned below is normal practice for most businesses. There is also a clause at vz that the employee would have to give back the package to accept employment. Since most of us don't have 30-80k laying around I think that is an obvious answer.

How do I know this? I volunteered last year and was reached out to by my former manager to see if wanted to refill a slot (another employee left for medical reasons). I tossed out a high ball number but hr shot it down due to the aforementioned clause

In 2014, I attempted to hire a previously Verizon-laid-off technician. HR would not let me hire him because he had accepted a lay off package from Verizon two years prior. HR told me the HR rehire policy was no person could be hired if said person accepted a lay off from Verizon during the previous 5 years. The HR policy reasoning? If the prospective hire would somehow get laid off again from Verizon it would like "double-dipping", receiving TWO lay-off packages from Verizon. Yes, that is a direct quote from our Verizon HR consultant. I am so glad I am gone from Verizon.

Why would you ever want to go back to piece of $hit Verizon. Got $hit canned in 2015. Took my golden parachute and live the good life.

Come here to watch people continue to contort and suffer under this god aweful $hithouse. Because #Bettermatters!

Suk it Lowell. Go T Mobile!

I heard the same from a manager when I applied for a position back in VZ. They will not hire you back as employee but may be ok having you as a contractor.

I hate to go back but after 27 years of working in telecom its hard to change industry esp since most of its dying. Also changing industry means you have to start at a lower rate.

So an advice to the millenials if they are reading this... dont join VZ for more than 3 years.

Better yet, who in their right mind would want to go back to Verizon ..... unless of course you love the taste of curry-excrement.

The only people that would go back are the scum-s---ing back-stabbers that couldn't get a job anywhere else.

Verizon deservers them. And they deserve Verizon.

I got laid-off in 2014. And got a much better job .... and my generous severance in return for not suing that scum-s---ing corporation.

.... and to all a good night! Ho! Ho! Ho!

When the layoffs happened last year Fran S said specifically they would not hire any impacted employees in the finance organization. This is likely true.

Not true, know many former employees that are back in just this year, stop with the tall stories, perhaps there is something in the HR record that the person does not get picked
