Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

Oakland Depot - Unite before it's to late!!

We have been told blatant lies by upper management regarding brooklyns contract. We have been treated like sh-- by certain supervisors that are functioning alcoholics. There are over 20 of us on final written warning. Our HR rep is condescending and malicious towards us. The writing is on the wall, the rumors were true, we should of all unionized 6 months ago but now is the time. We are not the uneducated, bottom feeders corporate makes us out to be. We all have families, responsibilities; and we will fight back against the corporate greed that is altice. This new ploy by altice, there new company called ATS is nothing but a tactic to divide us. You will be considered a contractor if you join ats, lose your cable benefit but most importantly, you will lose any protection being a customer facing employee under altice might have provided you. I urge you all to open up your minds and think about whats really taking place with this new company and how convient the timing is in regards to us going union. The only way to combat these tactics is to refuse the option to join ats, sign a union card and unite as fellow brothers all working towards the same goal.

Sudden link techs working 20+ hrs? How is that legal? We can't work past 16 hrs straight in ny..it's illegal .

At least your getting ot...they scrapped ours months ago.

Here with suddenlink they're pushing everyone with knowledge out for "retirement" , not replacing installers who have left, and dumping our local contractor help all in the name to save a buck. The rest of the work load has been handed off to us morons who still think the company has our best interest in mind....sad day to say they no longer do. If we say union, there will be some "reason" to fire us, so until we are blessed with a new career opportunity, we have to put up with incredibly long shifts (20+ hrs) and the tastefully tacky cut in benefits. I pray very day for a new home with an employer who at least acts like they care about my well-being and my family time. Final interview for one said party is Wednesday so say a prayer for me as I will anyone who needs it.

And...if you sign with ats....you won't believe what happens next.....

Work is work, I personally do not care what or where I'm installing. The "wait and see" has already cost my family thousands. I believe stability is the key issue. The amount of give backs in free cable benefit alone exceeds most employee union dues. Next year paid time off, retirement plans, health benefits and performance bonuses will be gutted. Personally I've given blood, sweat, and tears to build and maintain and earned every cent I've received. I was hoping to be given the opportunity to demonstrate this with our new owners. They have proven repeatedly that the bottom line is all that matters. I'd rather wait and see what organized labor can do. You would have to be crazy to not be worried about having future income in the current environment.

Selling your labor?? You work for them. It is a job that they are paying you to do. You are not going to work to do them any favors. You going to work to provide them with a skill you have and in turn they provide you $$, benefits, 401k, etc...

I think alot of guys are also not seeing the entire picture or realize that the equipment being used to build this new FTTH network is made by Altice Labs. We are no longer a cable company. We are now also a manufacturer of equipment that can be sold around the world just like your Cisco and Arris gear. Along with selling the equipment you can now sell the pro service installation for that gear.

Not saying for a union or not, but I feel everyone should give it more time and see how things play out before possibly killing the start of something that could open alot of opportunity up, before it even gets off ground.

Contractors indeed. They plan on selling your labor to other companies if needed. Keep that in mind.
