Thread regarding Caterpillar Inc. layoffs

How can you find out if someone has been laid off from Caterpillar?

My ex has been with Caterpillar over 20 years and is/was in upper management. He dropped off the radar about three months ago and hasn't replied to any of my requests for information regarding his employment status. We have a child who is in a treatment center which is totally funded through ex's health insurance, and they told me yesterday that the insurance company has stopped paying my son's bills out of the blue. They want confirmation that he still has insurance, and I don't have any access to that information now. How do you find out if someone has been laid off??? I've got to figure out where my son is going to live if he doesn't have health insurance any more!!!

Please don't tell me to involve my lawyer, I can't afford to pay her any more to go through the agonizing process of subpoenas and hassle just to figure out if the ex still has a job.

Surely there is a phone number or something for employment verification?

These ARE layoffs, mass layoffs according to the WARN Act, hence the notice end of August, and suspension from work and pay until Oct 31. I too was affected by that round.

These are not layoffs but job eliminations for office workers. As someone else said some of these jobs are being sent elsewhere. Panama Brazil. India. People must train their replacements. Someone I know from A.C. Mossville received notice end of August after almost 20 years. Cat paid her as employee until Oct 31. Was not allowed on property for any reason. Unemployment for 6 months. Thank God she found a job and started this week. Sad to see these people go. Loyalty with the company means nothing anymore. This is also true of other companies as well.
