Sad to read. I always thought Erie and its folks had great work ethic and friendships.
Hey ... IT person, thanks for calling it like it is and verifying it was your job to eliminate the security sign in of Senior Employees first. FMC Erie claims they don't discriminate but the writing is on the wall. Erie has been steadily replacing those Senior casualties one by one with new less expensive and younger employees. The trend can not be denied. That's what they consider valuing and maintaining talent. It was also a great way to get certain individuals with a different viewpoint or outlook out of the way. Can't have different viewpoints or ideas in a successful business.
I was in the area of IT, and am gone, we were valued, not effected that much until the end, we watched them drop as they eliminated there security sign-in, senior employees first
"just saying", the members of the "good ole boys" club are pretty much gone, so there are other reasons that those hard working, dedicated employees (you probably are one of them), were not included in the program. Just sayin'........
many good experienced hard working dedicated employees in Engineering , Production, R & D , N. C. Programming , Purchasing and Sales got passed up during this protege development, they never had the opportunity to progress, they weren't in the" good ole boys" club

How does/did one meet criteria for UP AND COMING STAR? Worked at Erie, you were either in the club or you weren't. Must be a Cathedral Prep thing.

Read through the Educational Reimbursement section of the Employee Handbook. To qualify you first must be labeled as an "UP AND COMING FUTURE STAR". If you haven't achieved that ranking then you don't qualify for the benefit.
Don't beat yourself up bro ... especially now before the Holliday's. You were simply coached incorrectly by your Supervisor. If anyone should have known better it should have been them. There was unfair or unequal treatment all over that place not just you. Engineering and Sales included. It's the Erie way. Either you on the popular side or not. That was the culture that the TERTL instilled on all his STAR management. They were hand picked by the "Good Ole Boys Club". Hopefully someone in the new merger will realize this and make a much needed change.

@NO SPECIAL PRIVILEGES? - You are 100% correct, for one employee to be treated with exception compared to another is wrong. In addition, the facts being pointed out here about the special treatment I received, are all accurate. Looking back on my time at FMC in light of what has been said, I never realized how overwhelmingly ignorant I was to this. The feeling of having a large number of people that hate you so intensely as to talk about it months after you are gone is horrible, but even worse than that is to know that their hatred is completely justified. I hope that in the future none of you have to endure another person like me in your lives, but as REPAIR CENTER said, any apology or sympathy from me is just wasted breath. Take Care.
I asked to attend further schooling to better myself during working hours and was rejected, you were permitted to attend school during work hours, to get the degree you were supposed to have BEFORE you got the job
Dan, it's so easy to fling insults and post nasty comments while hiding behind an anonymous name. I really was somewhat stunned when I read your post, a few times, and have to say that I admire you for being so open and forthright, along with your apology.

If D.C. is considered a swamp then in comparison Erie is a SEPTIC TANK and there isn't a sewer s---er powerful enough to clean it out.
Hey Dan ... thanks for the apology. It has been a very difficult and depressing time for many, including myself. Don't carry any blame or guilt about what happened in Erie around with you. Not your fault man.

So I've periodically checked this site since leaving FMC, and the fishing club has been repeatedly referenced. Out of many regrets I carry in my life, being a part of this club is one of them. Not that it wasn't a fun time, but because of the poor reputation it earned me. I could sit here and try to defend myself, to tell you that I earned my promotions, and that I didn't receive any special treatment, but you wouldn't believe that anyway. What I can tell you is that I am sorry for what has happened to everyone who has lost their job, and I am sorry that I didn't do more to prevent additional reductions, although I don't know if that was even possible. I am sorry that I waited as long as I did to leave, and regret hurting so many people. I am not asking you to discontinue your hatred and anger towards me, forgive me, or feel better about what happened, but I am truly sorry. If you'd rather hear this face to face, look me up, Erie is a small town. Take care.
