I was laid off in March....can't get HR on the phone to save my life to verify employment. And they charge to obtain information from "the work number" .

TheWorkNumber is just the worst. A lot of companies use them too. I went the rounds with them for a long time when I was at MCK and they almost cost me the home we bought when their records were not correct. What's crazy is when you get your own report for them and see just how much information they have. What a huge scam. It doesn't surprise me that Equifax owns them.
Use your manager or direct report and their phone number.
Given how things have been going with Nimmy running the circus, you may need to include a Hyderabad country code on that HR number.
