To ones approaching 50, watch your back, unless you wanna be replaced soon.
And for the ones considering working here, keep in mind - though if may not seem like that at first because of some correctional changes and changes in personal, Raytheon still is a traditional company with long roots and will be for a long time. So, expect to be frustrated in terms of process modernization, nor to climb up the ladder fast and easy.
Age discrimination at Raytheon is real.
I worked at Raytheon for 40 years. It had many ups and downs during the years. It was a great company to work for. I worked hard and moved up through the ranks. Those over 50 who are still willing work hard and put in a full days work have nothing to worry about. It's those that have been with the company for years and feel that they are owed something. I was able to retire at 62 and it was my choice. I was not forced out.
Do not listen the the people who are talking about " if you're 50 or older watch your back " that's straight up bolony. Those people want to sit on their tush and collect a handsome 6 figure salary while sitting in a cubicle. NO, it's not going to happen, Raytheon has awoken and got rid of the dead weight. Raytheon is a fantastic company to work for. If you WORK HARD and get your hands dirty, you will make a very lucrative and lengthy fortune. Those sitting behind a computer screen all day for 30+ years are the ones complaining. But the others who get in there and put down some elbow grease are the ones who really shape the company into what it is today, and what it's going to be in the future.
Raytheon IDS San Diego once upon a time WAS a fun place to work. No longer. It has become very politically correct, had some suspicious leadership, numerous s-xual affairs among leadership while nothing was done. On top of that starting in 2012 until today, constant layoffs in small numbers. People started to empty out their offices not knowing who was going to be hit next. Then if you are near 50 or over, there was virtually no chance of moving up. East coast "leadership" installed young leaders who had no experience. No experience = no new contracts. No new contracts = layoffs!
I've been saying that for a few years. If you're at or near 50+, make other plans because RTN only has one plan for you... layoff or RIF. AND they expect younger workers will be drawn to them. The fact is, they still have NO cool factor. It's still an organization with too many processes, limited mobility (unless you have a sponsor in the executive ranks), and a Bureaucracy that is hell bent on keep its position alive and well.
I think for these reasons Millenials will be frustrated.
