When you hear phrases like "You own your own career development" that's Company speak for we don't provide any training or career advancement.
In professional environments training is a partnership between the company and employee. Yes the employee has to be motivated and willing to put forth the effort.
But in the case of CSC all training is on your own time and at your own expense. Learning new technologies in a vacuum can only get you so far.
