Thread regarding State Street Corp. layoffs

Top Charitable Company

Street Street was recently named a top charitable company in Massachusetts. Our CEO Jay Hooley graciously accepted the award on behalf of all State Street employees saying that charitable giving is part of the State Street culture.

I have thought about this a lot. I cannot take any joy or pride in this award given the way this company treats it's own employees (constant layoffs, low wages and almost non-existant raises and bonuses. For me charity begins at home.

How does every one else feel about this? Are you proud to work for State Street given its focus on the community and charitable giving?

I feel used. Employees like me give 100000 hours of our time so that State Street and Jay hooley can take credit for being great corporate citizens. Hooley---try this---Pay me a fair wage and I will donate on my own,

I remember when saying I worked at State Street made me proud.

I remember people begging me to help them get into SST, everyone wanted to work for SST

I remember when workers were treated with respect, treated as valuable assets , not an expense

to be cut.

Then the dark cloud appeared over SST around 2003 and the layoffs started, seeing people with

15,20,25 years of knowledge and ethics being discarded.

Yes SST is great when it comes to its PR stunts of donating to the Arts
