Why would a student loan debt collection company suddenly start running a university?

Since Corinthian went bust 18 months ago (and that was all over the news) they have managed to enroll 33,000 students. 33K students thought attending Zenith was a good idea. (https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2016/07/28/zenith-education-gets-new-leader-250-million-it-seeks-turn-around-former-Corinthian).
What does that tells us? You can't fix stupid so to avoid having even more students out there with loans they can't pay back because they can't get a job at WalMart unloading trucks never mind in their 'field', we need to SHUT DOWN FOR PROFITS.
'We serve those students other schools won't touch' Those other schools are not touching these people because they are: Illiterate, emotionally disturbed, retarded, socially inept hillbillies on meth, ... These people don't need college - they need basic life skills.
Zenith was not created to 'serve those non-traditional students'. Zenith was created to unwind one of the largest for-profits with a minimum of damage to taxpayers. They are trying to shore up programs that might have a hope in hell of meeting Gainful Employment rules such as medical assistant programs and close those programs that are a worthless joke such as Criminal Justice. I get it.
But what Zenith really showed us was that your education buying public is largely clueless and we can't seem to fix that no matter what we publish in the news, on PBS, on YouTube and on blogs. You can't fix stupid. All you can do is limit the outlets stupid can spend money on using tax dollars. Start with shutting down for profit schools.
You must realize that these expose shows are written and produced to promote a specific viewpoint. It's called journalism, but it's more like indoctrination. That doesn't make it a bad thing, it's just human nature to tell stories in our own viewpoint. Omission is a great tool.
Ask yourself, would any of you want your child to get an Everest degree or a state college degree....I thought not. So why is Everest still taking money. My students can't even write a coherent paper or post. But as the Asst deans want, I push them through with a good grade. Why you ask? Because the degree means nothing, so does it matter if they get one? Also because I won't get classes if I don't. Criminal Justice is the worst, but it almost over now.
nkz - I agree there are worthless degrees from notable universities, but any degree from a state university is worth more than a degree from Everest! Did you watch the show last night?
Yes they got rid of over 60% of the employees. What he doesn't say is 90% of those they got rid of were quality instructors and they kept the people who did the dirty work of Corinthian. At my campus the President and all the unethical directors are still here, just under new job titles.
xxw - there are a lot of worthless degrees even from notable universities. There are many bartenders and custodians with degrees psychology, basket weaving, womens studies, etc. The bs is all of the universities s---ing America dry in the name of higher education when 50% of freshmen drop out of school and a university degree does not guarantee anyone a career, or even a successful job. PhD should be an acronym for arrogant a--.
gza - A degree from OSU is actually worth something... that's the difference!!! Nobody can control what students spend their money on, but we shouldn't pay for students to go to BS schools like Everest or WyoTech. The only people who benefit from these schools are the already rich executives and student loan debt collection companies.
Public university students receive grants and spend it on booze and purchasing personal items that have nothing to do with school. There are wealthy people who place all their money in family trust funds and send their adult children to college on federal loans and grant money. What's the difference whether it's a WyoTech student or an OSU student? People lie and spend government money all the time; look at our politicians. Our government should stop all funding of education and make people work for it.
Looks like wyotech dodged another bad headline. How can you people enroll a student and strap them $35,000 debt load to get a $12- 15.00 an hour job. You have no ethics as the report proves. JnqLt9 states, the new CEO of Zenith must be referring to veterans when he talks about low debt because the rest of the students are getting the bulk of loans. This is true and veterans should not be allowed to go to these schools. Recently I was told by the sales person in Daytona I could get grants for tuition and food and rent just to attend. really? you're giving me money just to attend? You people are pathetic. You better start asking yourself where you're going to work when Everest and Wyotech schools finally close.
Good news film. They completely ignored the aspect of unqualified Deans, Assistant Deans and some instructors at Everest. They also ignored the way we are force to pass students or never get another course again. Maybe its for a future film. They should close Everest as they did ITT, take the loan forgiveness hit and learn. Shut down these bogus schools and make those that will actually do the hard work it takes to get a valuable degree go to public colleges. Those that should never have been in college need to go learn a trade to earn a living. That's where the money will be in a few years, no one wants to learn trades. Not everyone should go to college! No matter what the idiot liberals say.
When does the hammer fall on Everest? Running up big debt on students that could never get the jobs they were told they could get. They need to stop the tax money bleeding now. I guess ITT didn't have lobbyist to keep them funded.
What a joke, Peter Taylor says Zenith's goal is for students graduating with only $4,000 of student loan debt. Today most WyoTech students graduate with an average of $35,000 of debt. He must be talking about veterans only.
PBS is a little late to the party......
