Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

It's going to get worse, before it gets better.

I worked my last day as a staples employee yesterday. I don't want to bite the hand of staples, the company that had been feeding my family and I for the last 10 years. I truely appreciate the work staples has given me, BUT enough was enough, the last 3 years it's changed for the worse, the way a DM talks to you. No appreciation for what you do, nothing is ever good enough. They act like your solely the only one responsible for staples failings. I helped get a well known criminal arrested for stealing thousands of dollars in ink. All I got in return was that my gm informed me that the DM said nice job. Yet my DM can text me the rest of the time on my days off to improve numbers that there not good enough. It's been draining on myself, but more importantly on my wife and kids. I had to stop this, and I did. I got a job making $10 more an hour with free healthcare for the family. Mon-Fri with a schedule of 9-5pm, I can finally have dinner everyday with my family. I just want to work for someone that will respect me, I don't need to be treated like royalty. But for heaven sakes I'm a man, treat me as one. The biggest failings that staples upper management can't deal with is pressure, when there backs are against the wall. The way you treat everyone beneath you is important, you walk all over them you will lose them. That's exactly what staples has done, it's a shame. I was once proud to work for staples, those days are gone and so am I.

I have been away from Staples for just over a year, and that year away has been liberating. I left on my own, my manager did not care about me or the others on the team, it was all about him looking good! So since then I am glad, and I have learned so much more! I was with the company for over 15yrs, and back when I started, yes, the company was great, the corporate express purchase screwed that up!

I was with Staples for 7 years, until they closed my store a year ago. Only worked part time, but the bull sh-- over the prior years was piling on.Loss of commissions on selling (you know what) and then the RM;s told the DM's to tell the GM's at each of our stores on in district to give all employees a "Do dot not meet expectations" so that we would not receive their minimal pay raises. So, we did bit receive a measly 10-20 cent raise for the upcoming year. Only thing though is that all the RM's and DM's received their bonuses.

I moved to OD once they decided to close out our store, and it is a world of difference as to how the RM's and DM's support their stores and employees. I only wish I had started with OD first ... Went on unemployment for a couple of weeks and collected six weeks of severance.

Only thing though, my OD store is closing as the lease is up. Guessing that the lease is up on our location. No biggie as I believe I will be transferred to another store as I'm pretty good on sales .. etc.

If not, I get two weeks of severance, two weeks of medical and unemployment if I can't find another acceptable job.

Good luck to all you Staples Employees. Just gotta say to buff up your resume and look for something better.

This company has to be the biggest joke in America. The management from the top levels down to the GM levels are serious bottom feeders with zero ability to do anything but point fingers at others as an attempt to deflect their idiotic ways and complete lack of ability to make wise decisions. It's rampant throughout the divisions that make up this sinking ship. Congrats to you for getting out when you did. You could have done no more it sounds like to me to have given your best effort everyday. But when it's a gang of "what have you done for me lately" knuckleheads in charge, it's just spinning your wheels in mud.

Congratulations to you. And I agree, staples WAS once a great company to work for. Everything has changed. Use your knowledge as a stepping stone. Longevity with staples does not happen, so we all know you can't retire from here.

Good luck and enjoy your family.they deserve you home and in a good mood.
