Thread regarding Zenith Education Group layoffs

If they would have just listened

It is sad to say, but the time has come to agree with the naysayers on this site. The right thing to do is to close Zenith, refund the $$$ to the students we are currently stealing from and move on. Zenith leadership could not have handled the transition worse. They bet on losers like Mike and Troy (remember those two). Then there is Josh and Heidi. I remember their smirky little faces during and right after the acquisition. Two snot nose brats who thought they knew it all. How did that work out for them. Remember how easy Josh made marketing sound? How is that working out for him? Josh cost more people their jobs than any one person should. When Dave realized the train was quickly coming off the tracks, he sprang into action and tried to cover up their mess by bringinging together a leadership team of outsiders that had no experience, One of the top VPs in an education company did not even have a degree. CCi would not hire a director that did not have a degree! Then the icing on the cake, turn over the organization to Kim Dean...WTF was he thinking? Dave, one thing is certain, you do not know talent when you see it! What do you think dave did when considering who to put in charge? It must of went something like this...let's see, who at CCi screwed up everything they were ever put in charge of? I got it! Now do not get me wrong. I do not blame KIm. I would have taken the job just like she did. However, we are today living with many of her bad decisions. Look at the condition of our campuses based on her recommendations to restructure. She kept and promoted her friends and not necessarily the people who best fit the position. Hence you end up with no DOAs, not enough staff and a failed high school person who Gaetano shielded for years running admissions! I have never been in admissions and when I am on calls with Cochran I know she is clueless. Again, I would have taken the job if I was her but again we are left to clean up after her. She cannot even turn to anyone for help because her boss Burkhalter knows less about admissions than she does # lotsofpeopledoingjobstheyarenotqualifiedtodo. Wyotech is no better. Anyone with admissions talent has left the building. They are running a failed field program and Dave G is a disaster and should be removed from his position yesterday.

Today you have X # of schools left. They are run down and we are as someone said in a previous post all but cheating people out of their hard earned dollars. It will cost me my paycheck, but I hope the DOE points their gun at Zenith next.

Dave bailed before the ship sunk is all. He saw the water was rising faster than they thought. Smart guy, richer than you or I will ever get. I couldn't have done what he did, so I'm okay with my station in life. I ain't rich, but I'm honest.

1chi: There was never any motivation for Dave to do anything that might disrupt The Plan. Hiring competent leadership might disrupt the natural, inevitable demise of the company. The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for ECMC is the ocean of bad debt that ECMC will get to manage. If there had been no agreement with DOE to do this in a methodical fashion (preventing DOE from issuing a truck load of loan forgiveness), then the schools would have all closed long ago. To your good point about the harm done, I suspect that Dave looked in the mirror one day and decided he could no longer play the game.

It's sad but true, ECMC bought a diseased, broken company run by a club of self-absorbed and undereducated/experienced idiots. Then Dave made it worse by displaying a truly shocking level of character judgment and leadership capability. His poor decisions, on top of "The Plan", did untold harm to many people, employees and students alike. All in the name of being able to keep collecting on some student loans. I think what amazed me when I left, and I mean absolutely mesmerized me, was just how astute Dave was at making literally the worse choices. Kim Dean? Whhaaaat?!? It was almost brilliant in its buffoonery. Along with her crew of misogynistic bros, Dean's was the most dysfunctional department in the company, and when the company is CCi that's saying a lot.

Good, the WyoTech reps are morons, too, just like UTI. They will fit perfectly with the corporate culture there. Ah, the Plan, yes ECMC is an extension of the U.S. DOE. Move along people; there's nothing to see here.

I agree with your passion. I was in admissions and have moved on after the "brilliant" move to RIF the Presidents and DOAs the only people who knew how to maintain the campus. The remaining campus's are falling apart and not making enough revenue to give the students the education the paid for. I also agree that this was the plan from the beginning...if it wasn't the plan then this is a company of morons.

OP: Thanks for your passion, but clearly you are unaware of The Plan. There was never an intent to improve - or even save - any of the schools. Rather, The Plan called for a controlled wind-down of the business - as we are witnessing. This preserves student loan repayment requirements (feeding ECMC core business) and gets DOE off the hook for loan forgiveness. DOE is not going to force an early closure - they helped to write The Plan. Make sense now?

A lot of the WyoTech admission reps have moved over to UTI.
