Thread regarding Williams Cos. layoffs

Laswuit

AA should resign, new lawsuit filed about safety problems. It's unfair to the recently terminated employees that where working hard to improve safety.

Another trial coming up in November, according to the articles. That one could really sting.

Court finds Williams guilty, jury only took 5 hours to decide, very very bad.

There have been plenty of potentially life-saving recommendations made over the last 5 years - even before Geismar. From procedure overhauls to people overhauls. Some were relatively simple but effective. Some were complex and took some work to put in place. What has always been lacking is true commitment to implement and hold the course long enough for the changes to take effect. SVP of EHS, Operations SVPs deciding that changes might impact their business too much, might take some of their favorite people out of the action, or just not having a clue about how to manage a safety culture and believing safety is slapping your buddy on the back and telling him to be safe.

Too many of the wrong people in the wrong places for small changes to make a difference anymore. It will take sweeping changes and drastic shifts in culture and thinking to even begin to turn this ship. We're not even talking about the fires, explosions, and other serious incidents that haven't killed anyone. I used to wonder - how many more will die before house gets cleaned? The answer is obviously well beyond my worst nightmare.

Don't know the cause yet-, it is a dangerous buisness and accidents do happen. It is not that Willians has a bad safety record, about average, they can do better though, that is the whole point.

The news release was horrible, claiming there was no explosion or fire, just a pipe burst and employee deathprofits, mergers, no excuses. If I was the ceo I would bring in some safety heavyweights and give them complete authority to make the changes needed. Too many excuses, we always did it this way, never had a problem before. etc, etc.

Tragic what happened up in Opal. I think ST needs to be terminated. Even though she's from environmental, she's at the top of the safety organization. This (and a worsening safety record company wide) needs to land at her desk. Moving her to some other role means there really is no safety culture at Williams

Hard to understand.

You've got a bunch of environmental people running the safety department-never understood that.
