I have heard some sumors from somewhat reputable sources that say there will be more layoffs before the end of the year. How many, from where, and how they will be selected is just speculation at this point. It sounds like some SXP groups could be on the chopping block. I also suspect that it will be contingent on if we get bought out or not.
I can't decide if Micron would put the same kind of deal in place Elpida did when we bought them. That's part of what screwed Micron this last year anyway. Just stop and think for a minute, we bought a company that was not solvent (losing money hand over fist) and then were forced to keep almost the entire workforce employed still.
I wonder why we lost money last year.... Either way things aren't looking good at the moment, I don't think anyone is safe. I did hear some supervisors were encouraging employees to take the VSP but to say they had a list before it went live is maybe a stretch but I guess it's remotely possible. It's also a possibility they weren't being malicious because if such an employee was a poor performer they could be let go and not get the ISP.
I don't think the ISP is eligible to employees with performance issues. That being said it's probably somewhat likely that most of the people laid off and given an ISP were at least decent employees. Let's not be salting wounds here fellas.
