Sweet vengeance... What did you do after getting fired/wfr'ed that you wouldn't tell anyone?

In my case... Summer 2010... I was fired - not WFR'ed for not "meeting expectations". I was a Planner/Buyer in what is now HP Inc., and we were basically exploding MRP from a spreadsheet I created like 3 years before (SAP never worked for us). The spreadsheet had lots and lots of macros I've developed over time. The day they fired me (a Friday) they escorted me out of the building, but didn't disable my remote access until Monday. The same Friday, I accessed the file, and deleted several key macros, leaving the tool useless... My then-boss called me several times the following week, and I finally took one of his calls on Thursday. He was hysterical, and "demanded" that I fixed the file. I'll never forget the big F### Y## I gave to him as my gift. It took them like two weeks to put a new tool together, and almost 3 months to tune the algorithms before they gave up, and started reconfiguring SAP - which took them a few more months to have something usable (they had to hire external consultants). Their inventory levels (and related exposure) went up to the roof, and they missed countless orders. Ethics? Well... F### ethics as well... I don't regret AT ALL what I did, and the best part of it was that I found another job in less than a month. Of course, I didn't list that @ss as one of my references... F### Y## HPI/HPE!

My goodness. I worked my butt off right until the last minute before I had to turn in my computer. Not because the company deserved it, because I walked out with a big smile on my face knowing they had just lost a great asset--me. After I left, I heard a few others left too. The project I worked on fell apart and another vendor was being considered to take it over. My smile got even bigger.

I was fired from HP 3 years ago for wrongful use of Company assets (I was putting together a personal website/business during working hours). The process was very quick... No warning, no nothing. They just got me in a room, presented the evidence, and I had to handle my ID card there. I was escorted out of the facilities without being able to return to my desk (they sent me my personal belongings days later). What can I say... It was a clear violation to the SBC... It was humiliating, and the next day I woke up with no benefits and without savings on my bank. It almost cost me my marriage, and we can say that up to this date, I haven't fully recovered emotionally or financially. What I'm trying to say with all of this, is that it's not worth it... Whatever you are doing that is not right, is not worthy... If you get caught, the impact to you and your family will be huge. Reputation, financials, humiliation, closed doors, etc., etc. Please, reconsider your actions and don't risk what you have (and I'm not referring just to a job).

Bah! Things are not "unethical" is they are intrinsic within the Company culture. What you read here is nothing... Worse things happen at the top levels... Right, Mr. Nefkens? The day this Company get REALLY audited, sensitive scandals will be revealed...

8vtq - This is symptomatic of a company that does not respect its employees, yet willingly looks the other way when laws and ethics are pushed aside to close deals.

HPE can't put controls in place, because it would restrict their account execs too much from influencing business decisions using bribery and inside information in the company's favor, and that lack of controls also allows disgruntled employees access to inside information that can greatly harm their business. Most companies that operate like HPE ethically at least know enough to take care of those people with access to prevent such leaks. Leadership clearly isn't that smart, or perhaps just too greedy.

More likely, they don't care and are just playing to an end game where they pull the company apart piece by piece, selling them off, until they make a quick escape. That's really the only thing that makes sense. It's like an elaborate pyramid scheme; when the stock dips, spin something else off, lay off more people. There is so much for the board members to "burn off" they probably have it mapped out through November 2017, when they can sell the remainder off for a bag of magic beans and float away with shiny golden parachutes.

I would urge people to do the right thing. If you know of any illegal activities, report them. Force the board to move faster in their plan, and reveal their hand. When the dust clears, Meg and her pals will still be rich, but they'll be under much more scrutiny, and it might be harder for them to buzz over to another company and repeat the process.

I have access to extended forecast details on several server product lines distributed in NA. I also have access to historical consumption information. I'm not sure how/where to monetize this information, but would be more than willing to explore the possibility... I'm sure someone would pay good money for this.

Speechless... This is probably just a sample of the things going on at all levels. I see this as a big failure for HPE. Evidently, the right controls are not in place... But what else can you expect from a Company with a history of bribing cases.

I'm a GBU WW Commodity Manager for strategic components. I accept "gifts" from one of my AP suppliers. In exchange, I verbally tell them what numbers to include in their quotes, so they can win key business awards. My boss is extremely happy with the savings and avoidances I've been bringing to the business.

I manage a few big accounts, and each time we have a review, my boss and his boss join us. "Entertainment" goes to my card, and regardless of what we eat ($$$$$) or do as "extracurricular activities", it gets approved. So far, not a single challenge from anyone since I've been here (7 years so far).

I was in the process of getting screwed over by my boss an old EDSer who was trying to save some of her old cronies from being laid off. I was put on an improvement plan for no reason. All I wanted was my 401K vesting for which I needed to hang on another 3 months. I consulted with a labor attorney who agreed that I was being shafted, but had little course of action because I live in a right to work state. He told me to kiss a-- and do everything they asked of me with a smile on my face. Boy did I. I sent the boss reports on how I was addressing each of her ridiculous issues. I smiled and I did everything asked of me. Including working a week which consisted of 18, 17 and 16 hours days after which I was required to take vacation to catch up on sleep. I had decided to quit on my vesting day whether or not I had another job, because life is to short to work in a sh-- hole like that place. A month before my vesting date I was offered a job with another company which I was able to delay my start until after my vesting day. Four days before my vesting date I got my WFR notice. I was out the door that afternoon and only went back once to turn in my computer. I got my vesting and the severance! Two weeks later I started my new job and paid off all of my debts with my severance package. I earned every penny of it. I only feel bad for the old timers that my stupid boss, "saved" because by the time they got laid off, HPE had revised their severance package so that they would get less money for their years of service. Being laid off was the best thing that ever happened to me. I felt like I won the lottery.

I still use my AT&T calling card after 4 years of being laid off... I have no idea why it was never deactivated, and I don't give a ####. I gave the number to my daughter (who is studying in Germany), and she uses it all the time for international calling whenever she doesn't have a wifi connection. An "involuntary retirement" perk from HP-HPE...

Years ago I was mad at several family members because they bought products from other Companies (Samsung laptops, Epson printers, etc.). I felt like they were backstabbing me... They didn't sponsor HPI/HPE because a cousin of mine was "humiliated" on an interview, and they said this was a bad Company that didn't deserve their money. I never believed him, and though he was just frustrated by doing terrible interviews.

After being kicked out of HPE is the most miserable way, I went to my cousing (after several years of no-speak - for several reasons, and made peace with him. Now our families meet at least twice per month, and most importantly... None of us have any crappy HPI/HPE equipment at home or in our small businesses.Always be conscious on where your loyalty should be. Tip... It's not with HPI/HPE...

Wouldn't tell anyone? Nothing.

But I did enjoy my paid "vacation" before starting a new job...and I am ripping out any HP or HPE hardware that I have (laptops, network gear, printers, servers) at home to be replaced with Dell, Cisco, and Lenovo equivalents. And, I will no longer recommend HP or HPE to folks I know.

Just a few examples... I haven't bought office supplies at home for more than 15 years - courtesy of HPE. I also have at home the same personal monochrome laser printer I have at my desk at work (so my toners are free!). The cleaning sprays and roll paper towels they have at work are really good to clean my mirrors and glasses at home. Too bad I don't like the toilet paper... If not, even my @ss would take advantage of these poor bastards. Ah! And I NEVER work my 8 hours... I love the extra perks I've "negotiated" as part of my compensation package... F### Y##, Mrs. Whitman!

@JhNsRZs-2wpm - Yeah, I'd not do what the OP did, but I can understand it. Every year, they give us the same BS training, and about a month after we take it, we hear about some executive getting caught bribing some European officials or some other nonsense, which makes it clear they have their executive assistants log the training and never go near it.

Employee-Employer loyalty is a two way street. I've spent years being ground down by EDS, then HP, mostly from the actions of upper management. I've overstayed more out of convenience and the fact that my colleagues are pretty good. I'm moving on soon, and I'll do it gracefully, even if it's on my own terms, because my team deserves it, even if HPE, as a company, does not.

You can't force ethics on people by giving a training once per year. When lights go down and nobody is watching, ethics is simply a personal choice. Ethics is also defined at the personal level. What might be wrong for you, might be perfectly fine for me. If you (HPE) have no ethics with me, why should I have it with you? I would never judge the OP, or the mailing list guy... I would have never done what they did, but in no way I would judge them. HPE don't deserve any respect, as they don't respect us. Respect is a two-way thing...

Are there sites that actually buy contact information of companies directories? Why in the hell didn't I think of that first? Easy money... That was brilliant, bro! How does it work? Do they pay per contact? How do they validate that what you are sending them is accurate? If they pay per contact, you should have made plenty of money. Any details you could provide would be awesome...

Well it was about time they got one of their thousands of internal systems to work right. I guess that didn't teach them though since none of their Internal systems still don't work. People spend most of their day spinning their wheels because of their systems and get a couple of hours of work done because they're junk and too many of them.

Thats awesome... It also shows that HP has no real intelligence, HP should have been able to to restore the file with the macros... But typical HP had no clue what to do, I hope customers take notice... Such a simple thing, I hope what you did cost them a fortune... As for Ethics, WHAT??? HP is the most unethical company around "F" them... HP = H--kers and Prostitutes...

If you flip the hp logo upside down it really looks like they are giving you the middle finger...

You deserved to be fired. Zero ethics. They should have sued you for damaging Company assets. You were not an employee when you accessed and modified that file that night. If they would have pursued you as they should had, I bet Bubba would have kept you busy from writing this post in jail...
