Thread regarding ITT Educational Services Inc. layoffs

Transferred out a long time ago, thank goodness.

I was a former ITT Tech student, but managed to escape its clutches shortly after the June quarter started. (thankfully)

I saw ITT making changes that I knew were ultimately going to end with its demise. I saw them not answering students questions effectively and always beating around the bush when it came to things like "why are we learning technologies from 5 to 10+ years ago instead of current technologies?"

ITT was a devil to its student base and I feel extremely bad for those that have to go forward with a degree in hand from this institution because it won't get you anywhere. I HIGHLY suggest attending another school to obtain a higher end degree so you don't have to show the one from ITT Tech.

Good luck to all of you out there, its a battlefield and we need to be in this to win.

Sincerely,

Your comrad in learning,

And honestly.. had I NOT been learning it on my own in my spare time at home.. I wouldn't have known it was an outdated technology and would've just accepted it as is... ultimately causing me to NOT be able to obtain a job in the field once I left ITT.

(Thankfully, I had already worked in the field, so I knew it wasn't a necessary technology we needed to learn anyway)

When I asked about it, I got shrugged off by the admins at the brick&mortar I was attending and was asked "how do you know they're outdated?"... All I could think was "Because I already work in the field, moron, update your curriculum."

Software development.

One of the classes, we were learning how to create things for the very first smart phones utilizing Eclipse as our IDE. Eclipse isn't even supported anymore, and it is now required to use Android Studio.

ITT still uses version 1 of the book when you need version 2 to complete the modules for that particular class.

The class is outdated = old technologies that isn't needed anymore.

What 5-10 year old technologies are you referring to? To be honest you NEED a strong foundation in technical subjects no matter how old they are. What is hot today is gone tomorrow and you probably can't afford to go back to school each time there is a new technology on the block. What program did you study? Why even consider attending ITT in the first place? What could you learn there that you couldn't learn on your own or at your local community college for that matter. There is always more than meets the eye when it comes to these accusations. Granted, ITT was a mockery of its former self, but I think if we dig deeper there is more here to your story.
